sword_chocobro: ((older) hang ten)

With fall and winter quickly approaching, Gladio wasn't really sure how many more nice days they'd have left to do something like this, so he wanted to take advantage of a good day while they had it. Which meant everyone in class was going to be redirected to the beach that day, where he had set up a few volleyball nets and was waiting for everyone with a volleyball being idly tossed between his hands.

"Hey, everyone," he greeted with a nod and a grin. "If you haven't figured out by now what we're doing for today, then I'm going to go ahead and guess you're just not that familiar with volleyball. But you're in luck, because we're going to learn how to play it today and pick up some good coordination skills and maybe even some teamwork points while we're at it.

"So, take some time to get warmed up while I explain the rules of the game. If you already know 'em, just sit tight for those who don't. And then we'll split you guys up into teams. We've got a good number for pairs assuming everyone was there, and since things can feel a little different depending on who you're paired with, we'll switch 'em up after each game. Any questions for me right out the gate before I start breaking things down?"

The library today was full of gremlins, and a couple of porgs, sitting at tables very quietly listening to a presentation on library rules and procedures.

Belle was at the desk listening as well because this was very amusing.

"Welcome back students!" Sam called out at the precise moment class was due to begin.

"I must apologize for my absence last week. I was in a state of disarray." He'd been caught up in some absolute Muppet nonsense. He did not want to talk about it.

"However we are all here this week and that is what is important!"

Sure, Sam. This class was very important. Absolutely vital.

"We will begin our discussion of states with our nearest neighbor to this very strange island, Maryland! Maryland is, of course, right next to the capital of our great country. However, it is also unfortunately very weird."

"First of all, this island is located, somehow, in Maryland! Does this make Maryland the weirdest of all states? That is something we shall discuss during this semester!"

Sam shook his head slowly and sadly. This island certainly counted against Maryland in his book.

"Additionally, Maryland as a whole is obsessed with a seasoning blend called Old Bay. They put it on and in everything!"

Weirdos, the lot of them.

"They also seem rather obsessed with crabs, much like the clinic on this island. Do not seek medical care from a crustacean!"

Sam hoped he didn't actually need to give that disclaimer. But Sam also knew that he did, Gonzo.

"Now, who would like to tell me why they think Maryland is or is not weird?"

The teachers had some of those kind of really creepy self defense dummies set up for the class to work on some of the basics.

"Weak points on an opponent," Jane said. "They tend to be the same on, well, humans. I can't say it'll be exactly the same on any other species."

Because aliens. Also magic.

"Basically people are kind of fucked up," Cara said. "They have a lot of places you can mess them up good. And we'll be showing you some of them today." Some. Some of them. Don't ask how many Cara actually knew, you didn't want to hear the answer.

"They are the solar plexus," Jane said, pointing out the spots on the dummy as she listed them. "The nose, the instep, and the groin."

Oh yeah, encouraging the class to knee someone.

"Please note that the last, while more effective on those who keep certain parts of their anatomy outside their bodies, also works for people who don't." Remember that, kids, at least one of you would canonically need that knowledge.

"So, let's practice on those spots," Jane said, hoping she wouldn't break the poor thing.

Just ignore any crunching noises, Cara could reassure you all they weren't the least bit realistic.
