While the weather forecast seemed to be giving this class its first less than perfect day so far this session, Gladio would still be sticking to his original plans for this week, and, well, if it rained while they were out there, that would just be a real solid true-to-life camping experience. Either way, everyone would have been told to meet over by Selkie Lake that morning rather than the usual spot by the preserve, and, if they hadn't had ideas on what they were doing today yet, the rowboats and fishing gear waiting for them along with their instructor definitely would.

"Sometimes," Gladio started with a grin, "when you go camping, you're lucky enough to do be doing it by a viable body of water, which means at least two time-honored camping activities that we'll be doing today: rowing and fishing. So sorry if any of you are afraid of water, but, well, could be a good time to conquer that fear if you are, or you can skip the rowing and just work on the fishing from the shore. But we'll take some time to go over good rowing technique, after we touch up on exactly how to fish and the gear you'll need. So any expert rowers or anglers among us right now, bear with me while we go over it, and then we'll get started."

"One of the things I truly love about these old ass recipes," said Summer, which was always a good way for a class to begin now, wasn't it, "was how inventive they were in finding things to put into other things that you might not normally have thought of. Is it a crime to put something into another thing and pass it off as food you'd want to eat or have someone else eat? Let's find out."

“I think,” Stark said, eyeing her a little nervously, “that it could be a crime. Yes.”

"This week, we're going to have a look at how bologna can be a boat for, what else? Creamed corn, and how apples are a great place for your prawns.

“Apples are great for pies,” Stark countered. “Not prawns. Why would you do that?” He didn’t actually expect an answer to that question besides, perhaps, ‘why not?’ He shook his head. “Although maybe it’s…fine?” He didn’t think so but he’d been wrong before. “Have you tried these, Summer?”

"I've made them before," said Summer, deftly not answering the question. "And, of course, if we're talking food inside of food, we'd be remiss not to at least mention the turducken, which is, of course, a chicken in a duck in a turkey. We don't have time to make one of those, but I did bring one, and also I made it Wellington, because people went nuts for Wellingtoning things in the mid-century, and it's another example of putting one food in another!"

"That just seems…excessive." Stark shook his head. "I should be used to that. Right. We should get on with it."

Jon brought out the liquid kind of tea and got his own cup, trying not to fidget too much.

"I, um. I would like to apologise for last week. But I...well. Never mind. Anyway. This week, a man died. Which would normally fall under news rather than gossip, but the man in question was a horrendous piece of work and enjoyed being nasty to people, so why don't we gossip about how awful he was? I've brought a list of reasons if you need them.

"Or you can gossip about the other major news in this country this week, which is a former American president being indicted for being an idiot. And also a traitor. Or take your pick of royals gossip, because there's always plenty of that."

"Right! Today we're going to shoot at each other," Atton said brightly.

He waved behind him at the flight sims. "Everyone gets one of those fancy-schmancy X-wings people like to use in the future. Each station is paired with another one. If you get shot, find a way to land without exploding your face off and you get half points."

He clapped. "That's it, go crazy."

Jo the mun had forgotten about her shift at the library last week and to make up for it this week, she had turned up a little earlier so she could do some extra work to make up for it.

The first thing Jo had noticed was just how glittery the library seemed and it was everywhere, so by the time she’d finished reshelving the books she needed to put away, she’d ended up completely covered in glitter.
