Gladio had been really looking forward to his class this week, and it was especially true now, because if there was another to help swing the pendulum back to the other side for him, it was spending a little time out in the great outdoors, even if just for a little bit. It was a pretty good day for it, too, in his opinion, so he was eager waiting for the class to collect and gather themselves on the outside of the preserve, a bunch of camping gear and equipment at his feet, and ready to get going.

"Hey, everyone," he greeted, with a nod and a grin, when it got to be about that time. "Let's Go Camping!"

With that, he reached down and grabbed one of the tent packs to sling over his shoulder. "Everyone," he said, "grab a pack and let's get started. Today, we're going to be focusing on shelter, which is usually going to be your primary focus when you get started on a new campsite. But we gotta get to the campsite first, so I hope you thought to bring your hiking boots," excuse him a moment while he took a moment to glance at everyone's feet pointedly, "because we've got a trek ahead of us first. And once we get to the spot, I'll show you guys how to pitch a tent."

He let that sit, just for one second.

"Bit of a warm one today, too," he added, "so make sure to grab a water bottle from the cooler, and let's head out."

Before class really got started, Summer was just going to take a moment and sigh happily as she looked around the community center kitchen classroom, fondly remembering all the twenty-first century food crimes that had been committed in this space over the past few years, and then turned her attention to her students, whether they were here because they knew what they were in for and were clearly just gluttons for punishment, or whether they were here because they had no idea, like lambs to the slaughter.

"Hello, everyone," she began, "and welcome to 20th Century Food Crimes, a class where me and my coteacher Stark here--" She paused, gesturing, for acknowledgement of said coteacher, "will lead you weekly through some truly what-the-fuck recipes that actually existed in this dimension somewhere and that, presumably, people actually ate. Or perhaps they made these things merely because they could, without stopping to think if they should."

Not that she'd know anything about that!

“They definitely should not,” Stark interjected. “Some of these should never have been made to begin with and they certainly should not be being made again yet here we are.” He was acting as if he had not enthusiastically agreed to this class.

"We're going to start our journey into the dark, seedy world of the culinary offenses of the last century with two absolute classics of bewilderment and awfulness that take a perfectly fine fruit and do terrible things to them: the liver sausage pineapple and ham and bananas hollandaise.”

“I’m sorry,” Stark said.

"I'm not," Summer said. "Let's get started!"

If Jon looked a bit haggard today...that was just Jon. If you didn't know him, you'd get used to it. He'd done his best to get put together, so he was in nicely pressed trousers and shirt, but the too-skinny, too-scarred, and insufficiently-rested part there wasn't much he could do about.

Ditto the "I lost an argument with a moose" look. He was wearing that one a lot lately, too.

"Last semester, the moose had me teaching tea," he announced with a sigh. "Apparently he didn't actually mean the 'because you're English I thought you'd know it' type." He probably owed Tahani an apology, wherever she was. "Why on Earth he thinks I'd be interested in gossip, I have no idea."

Maybe because you were an actual physical conduit for a god of awful secrets, Jon?

"Whatever the reason, I suppose we're gossiping this term. We might as well start with the royals, as there's just been a coronation and lord knows they're an entire lifetime's worth of gossip on their own."

He grimaced. "If you're unfamiliar with the British royal family, more power to you. Otherwise, let's discuss, I suppose. Personally, I think the Duchess of Sussex was the smart one - she skipped the entire thing. Her husband apparently left as soon as was diplomatically possible. Meanwhile, Princess Anne - was she blocking Harry's face to spare him, to shut him out, or just because that happens to be where she was supposed to sit and the hat has a sodding great feather on it?" He pinched the bridge of his nose. "What I'd really like to know is why any of this is still relevant in this day and age when we ought to be funding shelters and the dole rather than ridiculous displays of generational wealth, but apparently that's not what this class is for. So gossip about the royals instead."

He gestured at the desk up front. "I did at least bring actual tea. From the Perk, not my own." Because his own tea was rubbish and he knew it.

Before the class stood a man who had cut his extremely long dark hair back to something short and vaguely Atton-like before the weekend. He had even showered. He was wearing a leather flight jacket, and he looked vaguely annoyed with the world.

"Look, I don't know how you people did Flight and Flying-class before, and I don't really care," Atton said, glancing at Anakin. "And hi. My name is Atton Rand. I fly things, I'm a pilot. The next few weeks, we're gonna learn more about how to fly anything that can keep itself in the air for more than a minute."

He waved his hand at the flight sims. "Your job today is to be one of them," he said. "Your starship's crashing. Stop it from doing that. I'll figure out how good you are at starships from there."

Beat.

"Then you get to do it all over again in a plane."

The 'throwing the baby into the water to see what happens' school of training always worked on everybody, right?

Jo was rather pleased that classes had started up again and was looking forward to spending the upcoming summer session. The library seemed to be rather quiet again this week, which she was starting to be slightly suspicious of since it had been a few weeks since anything had happened but she was trying to not question it.

She did have class later in the day but for now she was focused on putting away the books that she needed to reshelve.
