Before the class stood a man who had cut his extremely long dark hair back to something short and vaguely Atton-like before the weekend. He had even showered. He was wearing a leather flight jacket, and he looked vaguely annoyed with the world.

"Look, I don't know how you people did Flight and Flying-class before, and I don't really care," Atton said, glancing at Anakin. "And hi. My name is Atton Rand. I fly things, I'm a pilot. The next few weeks, we're gonna learn more about how to fly anything that can keep itself in the air for more than a minute."

He waved his hand at the flight sims. "Your job today is to be one of them," he said. "Your starship's crashing. Stop it from doing that. I'll figure out how good you are at starships from there."

Beat.

"Then you get to do it all over again in a plane."

The 'throwing the baby into the water to see what happens' school of training always worked on everybody, right?

Step into your fake cockpit. No, the introductions will follow later.

You're flying a small smuggling freighter. Straight into the Earth's atmosphere. One of your engines is on fire and the left side is starting to wobble and burn.

The ground is about 30 seconds away at the current rate of descent. See if you can keep the ship going for at least a minute.

Anakin had been flying ships that were crashing and on fire most of his life. (Anakin needed to make better choices.)

He reached into the Force to stabilize the wobble as he familiarized himself with the instruments and the lay of the land in front of him, then started steering the ship towards water.

He lasted a minute and a half before having to abandon the vessel into the ocean, mostly out of sheer stubborn need to be competent in front of Atton.

You're in a small Cessna 350. You've lost control of the plane, which keeps turning and turning in the air. One of the engines doesn't seem to be working, either.

Again, you will impact the ground within 30 seconds. Try to get your plane under control.
