sake_shinigami: (and....there it is)

"Good morning, ducklings ♥!" Shunsui greeted the class as they got settled into their little writing circle, with the usual pleased, sleepy grin on his face as he began to get things going for their lesson that day. "I hope you've all been having a good week, and that you're ready to explore the Art of Creative Writing a little bit further today ♥. Now, there are so many directions we can take a topic as broad as this one, that it is sometimes difficult to know where to start! But we all have to start somewhere, neh ♥? And then who knows where it will go from there?

"That," he said with a faint chuckle, "is what we'll be playing with today ♥. We will be participating in a slightly modified version of what is known as a Kyokusui-no-en, or 'Winding Stream Party,' which was a very popular event in the past where Japanese nobility, poets, and artists would get together and have a little party in some beautiful and inspired location, to create beautiful things and drink beautiful wine ♥. And centered around this party was a game, where one person would craft the first line of a poem, and the next person had the time it took for a cup of sake to drift down to them along a stream to think of the next one. Now, we clearly have no stream or sake, but we do have a comfortable circle and some lovely tea, and I'd like to see what sort of story we can craft by passing it long to each other, one line at a time ♥. We'll each take turns presenting a first line, and go along with the next person building onto it with the next line, and then the next person with the next, so on and so forth, just to see where we can take each other with the narrative.

"Sounds pretty simple, neh ♥? Do we have any questions, or would someone like to get us started with a good first line?"

Back in the Danger Shop again, the students would find themselves at the edge of a vast reservoir of water, surrounded by shining, almost crystalline mountains, an area that was very much inspired by East Reservoir Lake back in Zora's Domain, right down to the dock-like platform jutting out into it, where Sidon stood waiting for them to arrive.

"Good morning, my intrepid adventurers!" he greeted, with an enthusiastic and energetic pump of his fist. "I hope you're ready to learn about even more Hylian beasts today, because we are going from the skies right down into the seas! That's right! Today, we're talking about a type of creature very near and dear to my heart...and my stomach, and that is Hylian fish!

"One thing I've noticed about Hylian fish that make them quite a bit different from Earth fish is that, while they share similar traits, there are some Hylian fish that actually can grant those consuming them a little elemental boost, depending on the type of fish it is! I'm sure there are reasons why these fish can offer such special traits, surely something to do with the magic deeply entrenched in the very heart of Hyrule, but it is often something I miss when I enjoy the fish here in this world! I have also heard that cooking the fish will also enhance these properties, but, alas, a Zora stomach has little tolerance for many cooked foods, so my experiences with them are mostly raw.

"Once more," he added, gesturing toward a small table that had little packets on them, "I have a compendium of different Hylian fish for you here to peruse. Please note, many of these fish would not actually all cohabitate in the same body of water, but we have made adjustments so that each and every one of them can be found somewhere in this lake. See how many you can find! If you have any questions, I'll be more than happy to elucidate further for you, and feel free to go about your hunt in any way you prefer. Would you like to jump on in and swim about with them? Maybe try to catch them from a shallower point? There are also nets and fishing rods, and if anyone would like to go out further into the depths...."

He threw down a cheeky sort of wink.

"I know of an excellent swimmer who can take you there!"

Himself. He was definitely talking about himself.

"And, with that," he concluded, "if there are no further questions, I will release you to find your fish, and may you be fruitful in your quest!"

There were cartons of chocolate milk all over the library today.

Where had they come from? Why were there so many? Why were some full, some empty, and some partially consumed? More importantly, why was there a very large chocolate milk stain next to an empty shelf?

Belle assumed it was gremlins and grumbled quietly to herself as she collected the various cartons to put in the trash before settling herself at the desk where hopefully there was no chocolate milk to be found.

The pastoral tent that was the classroom for this was the same as it had been for the last two classes. But this time the teachers were looking as though they'd finally found a new, surprising thing about this time and place to impress them. But it was impressive in the same way you're impressed in a Folgers commercial.

Which was only mildly.

"So, this week we start on bread," Jaskier said, looking at the sheet in his hand. "They just have yeast in packets here. That's... you know, I have no clue how it works back home and I don't think I'll be learning anytime soon."

"I'm almost certain it doesn't come in packets," Yennefer mused, "but I haven't the faintest idea how it works." Nor did she think she would be learning anytime soon. "At any rate, it makes things much simpler, I'm sure, so this week you will be making bread!"

"The recipe says it's a country loaf," Jaskier added, looking at it thoughtfully. "Isn't that just any sort of bread being made?"

"They have all those fancier breads here," Yennefer reminded him. She was particularly fond of brioche. "Although it's made mostly with white flour, so this is already fit for a king's table by our world's standards...perhaps this is too easy?" she asked, while not knowing what half the words in the recipe meant. "We'll have you make a fancier bread later in the class," she decided.

"Basics first," Jaskier agreed with a sage nod of someone who would not be making them himself.

"You have all your instructions," Yennefer told the students, "and the part that has to be done ahead of time has been done for you," by the Danger Shop. They certainly hadn't done it. "So...get to it."

Today's Danger Shop was set up to look just like the town, only with a variety of unfamiliar people wandering through it. "Today you need to work on navigating through a crowd and dodging a tail--a person following behind you, not a literal tail," Anakin said because being clear was important in Fandom.

He handed out slips of paper. "You need to give this--unnoticed--to the fake Tino at Caritas and make your way back without your tail intercepting you or getting the message from Tino after you've dropped it off."

He paused, then handed out an additional envelope. "This will buy Tino's loyalty, though it might also work for your tail. It's your choice to decide which version you pursue." Anakin glanced down at his chrono. "You have a half hour to complete the task. The costumes are out if you feel it necessary to utilize them. Begin." He snapped his fingers. "Oh. No powers."
