Photography 101; Wednesday, Second Period [01/18].
Wednesday, January 18th, 2023 04:29 amThe classroom that day was filled with a lot of miscellaneous objects and a bunch of different lamps, from your basic table top desk lamp to your professional studio kits. And Prompto, standing amid all of them, was there with a bright grin of his own.
"Give you three guesses what we're focusing on today," he said. "First two don't count."
But, yes, it was lighting, and after confirming as much if anyone actually did take that moment to guess, he launched into his lecture. "Good lighting," he said, "can make a huge difference in any photo, whether it's an impressive landscape, a selfie, or just some random candid shot. Want to avoid getting tagged on an unflattering photo from someone's party? Know where the good lighting is and just stand there all night. You can also use lighting in different ways to capture different moods when shooting the same subject, which is kind of cool, and mostly what we'll be focusing on today. I'm going to go over a breakdown of some of the basics of lighting and some general tips, and then we're going to put everything into practice , and you guys can play around with different light sources on different subject matters and learn how to best put these things into practice!
"But before we really get into that," he said, with a nod, "you guys had Rule of Thirds homework, right? So let's see what you guys came up with, and then," he grinned, because he was absolutely not going to apologize for this, "let's get lit! And also, for next week, I'd like you guys to come in with a few shots utilizing natural lighting, a few shots using unnatural lighting, and a few shots that actually try to play with darkness and shadows. But first things first, our Rule of Thirds shots. Who's up?"
