Rosa was trying to make it look like she'd gone missing so that she'd have an easy out/excuse for not deal with a Diaz family Thanksgiving, and a key component of that was simply not showing up for her class that day, without any sort of warning or note or anything. So if the students showed up for class as usual only to find their teacher had never shown up, sowing confusion and questions, then that was all part of the plan, really.

Although she also wouldn't be surprised if no one thought anything about her just skipping out on class, because it wasn't like it would be the first time. She'd even had a whole community center workshop that she just stopped having to see if anyone said anything, and, sure enough....

So enjoy your free period, kids. Hopefully you didn't stick around waiting for your teacher for too long like chumps.

Today the classroom was filled with the delicious smell of roasted turkey. Don't worry, your teachers didn't cook any of them.

"Thursday, as you might already know, is an American holiday known as Thanksgiving," Steve began. "It's a day to gather with loved ones, express gratitude, and eat until you regret it."

"Mostly the latter," Tony added. "But today we'll be covering something small and seemingly innocuous from the holiday... the turkey... popper... thingy."

It had an actual name, but Tony was lost on the culinary arts.

"Thermometer," Steve added. "It pops up out of the turkey when it's cooked enough!"

Like magic, but science! "His name was Anthony Volk and he also invented that weird plastic thing that holds the turkey's legs together and makes it hard to get the plastic bag full of innards out of the turkey cavity."

"To make it look better apparently," Tony said, making a face. "The thermometer is a simple device meant to pop up once the internal temperature of the bird reached optimal doneness. In theory."

Reality, however... iffy.

"It works some of the time," Steve said optimistically.

"So, let's have some turkey and enjoy the day," Tony suggested. "It's an easy week for school."

Class today met at Portalocity for another field trip.

"We're not going far today," Jon said. "The Library of Congress is in Washington, DC, not far from Fandom, geographically speaking. It's the de facto national library for the US, and the oldest federal cultural institution in the country, for whatever that's worth." Ah, Americans.

"Everything published in the US is expected to have two copies submitted to the library. They receive around fifteen thousand publications every day. We won't be able to take anything out, but there's still a lot to see there, both the books and the buildings themselves."

The portal opened, and he led the way through. "Enjoy yourselves, and I'll meet you back here when class is over."
