American Inventors, Tuesday, November 22nd
Today the classroom was filled with the delicious smell of roasted turkey. Don't worry, your teachers didn't cook any of them.
"Thursday, as you might already know, is an American holiday known as Thanksgiving," Steve began. "It's a day to gather with loved ones, express gratitude, and eat until you regret it."
"Mostly the latter," Tony added. "But today we'll be covering something small and seemingly innocuous from the holiday... the turkey... popper... thingy."
It had an actual name, but Tony was lost on the culinary arts.
"Thermometer," Steve added. "It pops up out of the turkey when it's cooked enough!"
Like magic, but science! "His name was Anthony Volk and he also invented that weird plastic thing that holds the turkey's legs together and makes it hard to get the plastic bag full of innards out of the turkey cavity."
"To make it look better apparently," Tony said, making a face. "The thermometer is a simple device meant to pop up once the internal temperature of the bird reached optimal doneness. In theory."
Reality, however... iffy.
"It works some of the time," Steve said optimistically.
"So, let's have some turkey and enjoy the day," Tony suggested. "It's an easy week for school."
