“This week we’re trying something different,” Stark said once everyone had arrived. “To show you something you may have noticed already. About the food here. Something good.”

"And if you haven't noticed it yet?" Summer noted. "Be ready to have your minds freakin' blown!

"....figuratively!" she added hastily, because she remembered what class this was and how that could legitimately be interpreted. "Not literally! No actual exploding minds today, please."

“Nothing is going to be blown,” Stark confirmed.

And now Summer needed to take a moment, because phrasing, and instead very dedicatedly focused back on the task at hand, which involved gesturing toward the desk at the front of the classroom, which was veritably littered with pizza boxes and other various to-go containers, many with the logos of several of the local restaurants around the island.

"Today," she said, "we're talking about a particular excellent Fandom phenomenon that occurs when you order take-out from most of the restaurants around here. Pizza, Chinese, tacos, sushi, sometimes even the burger place, will almost always give you way more food than you ordered. Just look at this spread. I literally only ordered two of everything for class today, and just look at what all showed up."

“I’ve never quite understood why it happens,” Stark said. Or how the restaurants managed to turn a profit. “But it’s very helpful in the dorms. Everyone always seems to be hungry.”

"So not only are you well fed," Summer concluded, "but it may also be a good lesson on how, while it may not make a lot of sense, it's one of those things that are well worth just enjoying and not thinking about too much. So let's dig in."

“Before it gets cold,” Stark added.

Anakin was checking his chrono as the class arrived. "We're going to be very on-time today because I have to travel with my wife and family up to Connecticut to go to an unnaturally large number of Thanksgivings on Thursday," he said. "I think we're up to five."

He shook his head. "There's going to be so much pie. That said," he waved his hands at the set-up before him, which looked very much like a made for TV movie Thanksgiving table, complete with the weird wicker cornocopeia thing full of miniature pumpkins, "--today we're going to remember the art of small talk and not beating dense relatives over the head with a holiday decoration."

Ask him how many times he'd been tempted. Assssssk him.

"The pies are real," he added. "I've found having my mouth full stops me--usually--from saying things like 'just how stupid are you?'"

Hello everyone! It's time again for applications! To apply, read the following information, click the link to the application form, fill it out for the character you want to play, and send it off!

The basics you need to know )

* Teachers are required to teach at least one class/workshop per week, and be accessible to students when needed. This also applies for characters applying to teach an adult class at the Community Center, rather than one at the high school. (Now that we're out of the summer session, we're going back to the regular class/workshop setting for the time being.)

* If you would like to apply for a new character to teach an adult workshop, fill out the Character Application exactly as if you were applying for a teacher, but mark it "Townie" instead. Note in the Course Description that it would be an adult workshop, not a student workshop. Because of the need to keep track of the adult workshops being offered and start them at the same time, these applications will be processed on the same schedule as student/teacher applications.

* Current townies or teachers can also apply to teach an adult workshop. If you would like to teach an adult workshop with a current character, you can fill out a limited application by following the instructions here.

* See this post for more about character activity.

* All accepted characters go on probation for the first month. After that time, if there's anyone who's disappeared or is causing problems, we'll talk to them about it and possibly discuss removal from the game. It's very difficult to get to the removal stage.

* Improvisation. Fandom High is a balance between planning and improvisation. Some people plan plots, but a lot of the day-to-day stuff is purely improvisation where you throw a bunch of characters together and see what happens.

Application Form (This is a GDoc whose text you can paste into an e-mail or attach as a txt file, then send to us at fandomhighadmins dot iambicnut dot com.)

You only need to fill out the parts that are relevant to the type of character you are applying for (ie: if you're a student applicant, don't fill in the stuff marked 'Townies Only').

If you don't get a confirmation email from us within 24 hours, please email us!

Applications close December 11 at 11:59pm Eastern. The next application session for students and teachers after this will be for the Spring Session in November!

Your teachers were actually there this week, ready and raring to teach you.

"Movie day!" Aphra announced.

Maybe not.
