"Coming up this weekend," said Summer, once everyone who was likely to be there that week seemed to be there, and it was time to get started anyway, "is the time honored Fandom event known as Parents Weekend, which is a little bit of a misnomer, since it usually don't just extend to one's parents, and it's usually not even just the students getting visitors, but this place doesn't always sweat the middling details."

“I had a visitor last year for the first time. A…friend,” Stark said. “I’ve been here for years and it had never happened before. I didn’t know she was coming. You might not expect the visitors you get or you might not expect anyone at all. None of my shipmates even knew where I was but she still received an invitation and came here.”

"And I had an ex show up unexpectedly once!" Summer offered out, with that sort of and it made me want to murder everyone sort of cheerfulness. "That was fun! But I've also had my family show up in a more expected way, especially when I was still a student here. So the point is, Parents Weekend is another example of something the island does that seems pretty simple on the surface, but might end up throwing you for a loop."

“I ended up in the pond last year,” Stark said. “For hitting someone. He started it. Someone else’s visitor.” Given the opportunity he would totally hit that guy again. Still. “Try not to do that.”

Summer bit her lip a little, making a mental note to definitely follow up on that story, if she had the chance, before focusing back on, you know, what they were there for. "Needless to say," she said, "it can get a little intense, and way beyond the scope of the whole 'parents and guardians showing up to see how their kids are doing in school' thing it claims to be. So today, we're going to just prepare ourselves for what may come. Are you expecting people to visit this weekend? Are you not? If you're not, is there anyone you should be worried about showing up instead? What about dealing with other people's guests…hopefully without punching? And also, is there anything we," she gestured between herself and Stark, "should know just in case anyone's parents or guardians or whoever shows up comes by to see us?"

“That’s a good question,” Stark said, nodding approvingly. “If there’s anything we ought to know before talking to anyone you might expect or might not expect please tell us. We’re here to help you. That’s what this class is for.” Being Stark, he’d try and help if he could.

"Hello," Anakin said, flashing the class a small smile before leading them into the Danger Shop, which had been set up like a very stuffy diplomatic reception. "Welcome to the part of diplomacy you see most in movies. This is where people extract information and provide distractions for espionage."

Don't think he hadn't been paying attention to last week's discussion.

"But the vast, vast majority of your time will be spent drinking substandard drinks and eating a variety of canapes while not looking bored to death by small talk," Anakin said, "so that's what you will be practicing today. Start at least two conversations with your fellow students. Topics must be confined to: the weather, whether they have anyone visiting this upcoming weekend, and any pets they may have or used to have."

He smiled. "Enjoy."

An email went out this morning to meet at the Flight Shed, because you could take the girl out of the Flight and Flying class but sometimes you needed to shake things up a bit.

"Today you're going to learn how to fight in a starfighter. This is an X-wing, the ship I fly. You're going to be in a dogfight against TIE fighters and see how you fare," Jaina said. "I'm going to give you a quick tutorial on how to use the simulator, and then you're going to have at it."

Was a few weeks ago not enough for you, Jaina?

"So there's a highly overlooked option for not dying heroically, which is not to become a hero at all," Aphra informed the class cheerfully. "This doesn't mean you can't also do things that others people might consider heroic, but certain kinds of trouble are less likely to try and kill you if you don't go around calling yourself a hero."

"Plus alternate careers can be both more profitable and even more exciting," Isabela added. "Like being a pirate!"

Which would explain why class was being held on The Siren's Call today. Guess it was time to play at pirates.
