"Hello," Anakin said, flashing the class a small smile before leading them into the Danger Shop, which had been set up like a very stuffy diplomatic reception. "Welcome to the part of diplomacy you see most in movies. This is where people extract information and provide distractions for espionage."

Don't think he hadn't been paying attention to last week's discussion.

"But the vast, vast majority of your time will be spent drinking substandard drinks and eating a variety of canapes while not looking bored to death by small talk," Anakin said, "so that's what you will be practicing today. Start at least two conversations with your fellow students. Topics must be confined to: the weather, whether they have anyone visiting this upcoming weekend, and any pets they may have or used to have."

He smiled. "Enjoy."

The whole concept of being bored enough to have to try not to look it in a social setting was just so completely beyond Libby's understanding that she didn't even know what to do with that kind of information. Even now, when she knew the whole thing was just a made-up scenario, she was still just thrilled at the idea of being out there and discussing things with people, even when the topics were so narrowed down.

But who wouldn't love talking to people about their pets? And the weather had been interesting, too, plus this upcoming weekend? Libby was way more excited about this than anyone had a right to be.

Libby couldn't help smiling at Charlie in response. "It really is," she agreed brightly. "I reckon there might be some rain on the way, but that's alright. I like a little bit of rain, especially in the evening. Good for curling up with a book."

Oh. Oh, this sounded...Gray was totally going to end up falling asleep on someone, wasn't he? But he would try to be tough and make (shudder) small talk.

"Hello, Gray," said Libby, smiling because this should be an easy one! "Do you know if we're going to get to meet any of your other siblings this weekend?"

Granted, she still hadn't managed to get around to meeting Raiden yet, but she really did keep meaning to!

"Libby, hi!" Gray exclaimed. "I know Al's coming--he's the oldest--but the last I heard there was a video game tournament going on to decide who else was coming and who had to stay home and keep an eye on things." He wouldn't be surprised if it came to blows without Raiden there to try to get them all to get along, but maybe Alastair could keep a lid on it. "Castor came up with that, of course." Greed had never found anything he wouldn't turn into a bet.

"Is any of your family coming to visit?"

"It sounds like Mama and Grandma Jean are trying to work something out still," Libby said with a faint smile that hid the little thrill of excitement at getting to see either of them again. "Mama's got the baby, so we're not sure if she'll be up for the trip. But my friend Zo's coming with them, either way." She laughed a little at that. "I don't think we could have kept her away if we tried! But I think she'll really like you, Gray, I'm really excited to have her meet everyone."

Almost as excited as Zo herself was, after hearing so much about everyone from Libby.

"Any more wonderful family cooks coming to visit this weekend?" Charlie asked. She would not at all be offended by someone falling asleep on her.

"Oh, no," Gray said. "I mean, some of my brothers are definitely coming. I'm not sure who yet; they're still arguing about it I think. But none of us can hold a candle to Ray in the kitchen. Not even Al would try to claim he does. There's Pride, and then there's just...saying stuff you know's not true.

"What about you, is any of your family coming? Your...aunts you mentioned?"

Vi was...mostly sticking to stuffing her face with appetisers. Never let it be said that she missed an opportunity when she saw one.

"Vi," Libby nodded, giving her a smile, feeling a little bad for interrupting her snacking, but she figured, if anyone was going to do it, she was probably a good candidate for it. "Lovely weather we've been having, isn't it?"

She may have just gone with that one because it was kind of funny....and with what little she knew about where Vi was coming from, others could be a little more...fraught.

"I have a cat," Vi said, adding a "You?" before shoving another snack in her mouth.

This was reminding Alara a lot of the functions her parents used to drag her to at the university so she was mostly staying off to the side and looking on at what everyone else was doing rather than trying to speak to people.
