"Hello," Anakin said, flashing the class a small smile before leading them into the Danger Shop, which had been set up like a very stuffy diplomatic reception. "Welcome to the part of diplomacy you see most in movies. This is where people extract information and provide distractions for espionage."

Don't think he hadn't been paying attention to last week's discussion.

"But the vast, vast majority of your time will be spent drinking substandard drinks and eating a variety of canapes while not looking bored to death by small talk," Anakin said, "so that's what you will be practicing today. Start at least two conversations with your fellow students. Topics must be confined to: the weather, whether they have anyone visiting this upcoming weekend, and any pets they may have or used to have."

He smiled. "Enjoy."

"Lovely day we're having, isn't it?" Charlie said cheerfully.

Libby couldn't help smiling at Charlie in response. "It really is," she agreed brightly. "I reckon there might be some rain on the way, but that's alright. I like a little bit of rain, especially in the evening. Good for curling up with a book."

"Or sitting around singing and telling stories," Charlie agreed.

"Maybe with some hot chocolate," Libby added, with a tilt of her head, picturing it a little, and then, worried that this addition was not nearly weather related, she continued with, "That's would absolutely be hot chocolate weather, I think."

Charlie honestly didn't care if they got off topic, and besides Libby was right, hot chocolate could still be related to the weather.

"I think hot chocolate would make the evening perfect," she said. Perhaps spiked with a little peppermint schnapps or something even!

But it was the assignment, Charlie! They could only talk about the weather, pets, or guests for parents weekend! And Libby planned on staying the course as much as possible...even if that course took her right up to the very, very edge of that parameter.

"What would you drink," she offered, because it was difficult to come up with something to stay on topic in response to that, but she liked the challenge of it, too, "if it doesn't rain?"

"If it doesn't rain," Charlie said thoughtfully. "Well, there's always coffee. Or a beer."

Shush, she'd be 21 someday. Why not pretend it was today?

"Oh," said Libby, her smile gone a little sheepish, "well, you'll have plenty, then, because I don't drink either of those things."

There was a slight beat before she hastily added, "Rain or shine." Just to keep still topical!

Charlie grinned at her. "More for me, Big Sis. So what would you be drinking? If it wasn't raining."

"Well," said Libby, relieved that Charlie didn't seem to think too much about Libby's reservations about things like that, "if it wasn't raining, you can't really go wrong with lemonade. Juice would be nice, and since we're heading into fall, probably apple."

"Lemonade is tasty," Charlie agreed. "But you know what I like even better? Lemonade over crushed ice with a little mint. Delicious!"

"Oh, I don't think I've tried that before!" Libby admitted, but her interest was clearly piqued...enough that even she was forgetting about the assignment to keep it within the parameters of the three assigned topics. "But that does sound really good. Kurt actually makes this really tasty watermelon mint drink sometimes, and I bet it's not to different from that. Actually, now that I think about it, you can probably add a lot of different flavors to lemonade and have them work nicely..."

"Oooh, watermelon and mint! That sounds delightful," Charlie said. "I'd like to try that sometime!"
