"Sorry about last week," Amaya started with the apology straight out the gate that morning for the class, with a nod, "but, well...I was a rabbit at the time, can't really help that. And while that unfortunately means we lost a good solid class period of work time, at least we've, fortunately, managed to get through all the basic techniques. All except for the finishing moves, like joining and polishing, which we'll save for the last class.

"So that means today's mostly work. You've got the tools, you've got the materials, you should have a grasp on the basic techniques, so let's work toward getting our pieces hammered out, shaped, and tempered so we'll have something to be finished next week. As always, remember it's a shared space, but there's plenty of worktables to go around, go ahead and ask questions if there's anything you'd like to go over again or are unsure about, and we'll just get started."

"This," said Rosa, padded up herself and holding up what could best be described as large weapons with foam at the ends that in no way resembled a giant Q-tip, "is a pugil stick. That," she pointed the stick at the sets of raised platforms positioned close to each other around the arena, "is our battle ground. This," she indicated the arena as a whole, "is Joust. The rules are simple: each gladiator take a platform and one of these sticks, and the goal is knock the gladiator on the other platform off."

That was it. No acknowledgement or apologies or explanation about her absence last week. Just right to the point, because it was no one's damn business.

Besides, anything more than the basics was just wasting precious time that could be used beating each other with foam sticks.

"Simple, right? Usually, I do this tournament style, but, since the numbers are a little wonky for that this time around, we're just going to do a bunch of different rounds and different pair-ups. Honestly, that works out better, anyway, because that means you get more time hitting things even if you suck. And, because this one's a personal favorite of mine, too, I'll be joining in. That gives us uneven numbers, though, so I asked someone else to come join us."

And that would be the time when the nine-foot-tall sharkman made his appearance in the ring.

"Hello, everyone!" Sidon burst out with a bright, toothy grin, practically making the pugil stick look like an actual Q-tip in his hands. "Are you ready to do battle and swing your way to victory?"

"Everyone," Rosa, don't look so smug, "meet Leviathan, a Fandom Gladiators veteran. Have fun with that."

And, with that? It was time to get started.

Today the library was full of what were apparently known as "cozy mysteries." Belle wasn't sure why, or why there was an overstuffed armchair by the desk, but the chair turned out to be very comfortable and she curled up in it to read after shelving a few things.

Goose wasn't feeling as bad as he been the last week and had actually made an effort to come up with a proper lesson plan.

He had even come up with a new topic to cover, which was something a bit different.

“Welcome back,” he said softly, “we're going to be doing something a bit different this week and we’re going to be covering lock picking and have a look at the mechanics inside a padlock before putting it back together again,” he explained.

Your teachers did not look very enthused to be there today. It wasn't them it was you.. and it was possible they were hungover.

Look, it was summer and things happened.

"Movie," Jaskier said, covering his eyes with one hand and gesturing at the television in the room with the other. "It's a movie day."

It was a movie about music class, what more did you want?

"Don't make too much noise," Cara, who apparently owned a set of dark sunglasses, who knew, said.

Clearly they were demonstrating the downside of the rock and roll lifestyle here.

Clearly.
