Fandom Gladiators; Thursday, Third Period [08/11].
"This," said Rosa, padded up herself and holding up what could best be described as large weapons with foam at the ends that in no way resembled a giant Q-tip, "is a pugil stick. That," she pointed the stick at the sets of raised platforms positioned close to each other around the arena, "is our battle ground. This," she indicated the arena as a whole, "is Joust. The rules are simple: each gladiator take a platform and one of these sticks, and the goal is knock the gladiator on the other platform off."
That was it. No acknowledgement or apologies or explanation about her absence last week. Just right to the point, because it was no one's damn business.
Besides, anything more than the basics was just wasting precious time that could be used beating each other with foam sticks.
"Simple, right? Usually, I do this tournament style, but, since the numbers are a little wonky for that this time around, we're just going to do a bunch of different rounds and different pair-ups. Honestly, that works out better, anyway, because that means you get more time hitting things even if you suck. And, because this one's a personal favorite of mine, too, I'll be joining in. That gives us uneven numbers, though, so I asked someone else to come join us."
And that would be the time when the nine-foot-tall sharkman made his appearance in the ring.
"Hello, everyone!" Sidon burst out with a bright, toothy grin, practically making the pugil stick look like an actual Q-tip in his hands. "Are you ready to do battle and swing your way to victory?"
"Everyone," Rosa, don't look so smug, "meet Leviathan, a Fandom Gladiators veteran. Have fun with that."
And, with that? It was time to get started.
