"You know," said Summer, shaking her head a little as she stood in front of the class with three new shiny cloches on the counter to better reveal the mind-boggling retro concoctions she'd be subjecting them all to today, "sometimes, I think I've definitely got a direction I'd like to take the class when we get there at the beginning of the week, and then, usually at the very last minute, I stumble across something so ridiculousamazing that I have to reroute that shit like a GPS. These ones aren't even gross, and the only crime I would levy against them is excess and being stupendously extra, but, of course, I just couldn't not share them with you all.

"Because, y'all....I've got a goddamn Fruit Salad Treasure Chest."

She lifted the cloche to reveal said treasure chest in all its pineapple and mayonnaise-"gilded" glory.

"I mean," said Summer. "Just look at it. It is so dumb, and I love it, and I had to share it. And, naturally, in the spirit of making a pineapple look like something it's not, I thought we'd discuss the classic making-something-look-like-a-pineapple example of the liver sausage pineapple. And of course, to finish us out, because all good things come in threes, I'd like you all to meet Frankie Doodle Dandy, one of many attempts to make meals more fun for kids that wind up pretty much probably just being nightmare fuel. There were a lot of options in that category to choose from that I might use another class to focus on it, but there's just something about Frankie here that feels particularly....visceral that I just couldn't pass up.

"Anyway, there's plenty here to enjoy, so come on up, give some of it a try, and we'll continue on our ultimate quest as to whether they were onto something here or if it's definitely time to give the past a lifetime sentence for..."

She looked back, at the liver pineapple in particular. "This."

Another Friday morning meant another box of ingredients at the front of the home ec room along with the teacher. "Good morning," he said. "Welcome back, again. I brought pink things, this week, by request." Hopefully Summer was feeling appreciated. He flashed a quick smile in her direction.

Then, eyeing the box with some trepidation he gave his head a little shake and opened the box.

"I have pink grapefruit, pink lemonade, dragon fruit, pink Starbursts," he said, pulling things out of the box as he spoke and lining them up on the counter. "And I have rose water and rose petals, pink cream soda which has a note on it saying it's from Canada, rhubarb, pink salt and ... pink peppercorns?"

Stark frowned and sighed before reaching back into the box which was somehow still not empty.

"Oh no. There's shrimp." Summer was getting a much different look now. One that was suspicious and tinged with fear. "And there's smoked salmon. I hope that's all…"

He peered into the box, let out a small dismayed noise, and pulled the final item out of the box. "And…there's this. Pepto Bismol. That's…please don't. That's not even food!"

"I have some cupcakes without any seafood in the back," he said, sounding resigned now. "And without any medicine in them either. I like the Starburst ones best, I think. Ask if you want help. Or need help." He was going to be eating a Starburst cupcake to distract himself from the seafood and medicine and hoping nobody tried to combine those things. They would be bad enough on their own.

Do you know what needed to be electrified? A sledgehammer!

Well, if you were Beaker, you thought it needed to be electrified. He stood proudly behind the machine--large, shiny, with too many buttons--and gave a long, meeping explanation about why the sledgehammer needed electricity to be a more effective tool. (Basic summary: because everything was better with electricity!)

He held up a huge nail that had been pounded once into a block of wood in order to stabilize it, and then crossed around the machine to push the button to turn it on.

Did you guess that the sledgehammer would do nothing to the nail but pound Beaker's head into his labcoat? You did? Congratulations, you've fully embraced Muppet Physics!

Now, um, watch out because the sledgehammer is on a huge extension cord and is now zooming around the floor of the lab searching for other things to whack.

"Right!" Lana clapped her hands. "Welcome back. Today we're going to do an Earth exercise that I discovered." She had personally found it to be horrible, but she wasn't going to be the one doing it, was she?

She tapped at the Danger Shop controls, and was rewarded with a platform about five feet off the ground with stairs going up to it.

"This is called a 'trust fall'. One at a time, you'll go up there and fall off of it backwards. Everybody else will catch you. No Force abilities, magic, wings, or far-jumping - you have to just fall, and trust the rest of us."

After all, this place had safety protocols, didn't it?

"It behooves you all to catch each other, because after all, they'll be catching you sooner or later."

Jo’s shift this week at the library seemed relatively straight forward, nothing unusual or unexpected seemed to be happening so she took the moment to put away some of the books that she had to reshelve and then she sat at the front desk and read the latest letter that she had received from her friend Deirdre.

It felt weird to think that this time last year she had been writing to Deirdre to apologise for everything that she had put her through with running away from school but Deirdre had actually seemed rather excited to hear about Jo and her adventures with her Underwater Basket Weaving Class and that she had been swimming. Then the rest of the letter was all about how the rest of the term at Malory Towers had finished since Deirdre was now on summer holidays. She had also included information about what the rest of Jo’s old form had been getting up to, apparently there had been the usual end of year pranks that had caused a bit of trouble but Felicity and June and the others would be going into Lower Fourth next year, it felt a bit weird to think that she could have still been at Malory Towers if she hadn’t been so foolish, even though she did much prefer being at Fandom than at Malory Towers. She did wonder what Miss Grayling would have made of all the progress she had since she had started at Fandom. Maybe now that a bit of time had passed she should consider writing a letter to her former Head Mistress to formally apologise for everything.
