drumsticksandd20s: (Hell Yeah)

The class had been notified to meet at the Community Center today, and for the next five weeks. When they got there, they'd find several long tables set out with chairs and moddable snacks, because if you asked Steph the snacks were a vital part of any gaming experience.

They'd also find Steph there in her usual ensemble of boots, skinny jeans, and beanie, wearing a shirt with the silhouettes of five fantasy adventurers under a d20 sun, and the words "Let's get this party rolling" beneath them. She was perched atop one of the tables, leaning back on her hands and kicking her feet, grinning eagerly at everyone as they showed up.

"What's up, everybody?" she asked once she was fairly satisfied that everyone on the roster appeared to be present. "And welcome to Choose Your Own Adventure: The Fandom LARP Project 1.0. I'm Steph Gingrich, and I'm going to be your totally awesome game master for this quest. What quest is this, you ask? An excellent question, to which I answer: we're going to be creating and running our own mini LARP -- that's short for live action role play, by the way. You all are going to help me decide on what kind of story we're going to be telling together."

She hopped down off the table and started pacing back and forth like her enthusiasm couldn't be contained (it couldn't), gesturing with her hands for emphasis as she continued.

"Once we've got that nailed down, you get to start creating your characters and coming up with costumes for them -- and weapons. Foam weapons, because this is going to have a combat element to it, but it's still a game. There are rules for that, and it's not going to be anything super intense, just to make sure it's fair for everyone since I know not all of you have actual fight training, but we'll get to that in a couple of weeks. But this week?" Steph shrugged and gave them a wry, apologetic smile. "We're going to stick to the basics, just to give me an idea of what we'll be working with. That's right, it's the dreaded first week introduction session. Name, where you're from, whether you have any kind of experience with roleplaying games -- and that's not a requirement, so don't worry if you're a total newbie to this stuff."

There was going to be no gatekeeping bullshit on her watch, thanks.

"And finally?" She gestured toward a small wooden treasure chest with a stack of slips of paper and a jar of pens beside it. "Come up and vote on what setting you want for the game: I've got high fantasy, space western, nautical, cyberpunk, survival, and Earth historical, but I'm open to other suggestions if you have 'em, or questions if you're not sure what any of these mean. But first, let's get to the introductions: I'm Steph, I'm from a version of this world but about two years in the past, and I've been playing tabletop RPGs and LARPing for most of my life."

She pointed to someone at random. "Your turn. Let's go."

Having enlisted the assistance of a few hopefully trustworthy squirrels yet again, Sidon had sent out messages tucked away in pretty little blue shells to be delivered to those who had signed up for his class this summer prior to the meeting time

Salutations! And thank you for signing up for Underwater Basket Weaving and Other Aquatic Arts! I am looking forward to teaching you! Please note that this class will be meeting down by the BEACH, unless otherwise stated! And please dress accordingly to having some fun in the sun and surf! I cannot wait to see you all there! We will all have a most wonderful time! Sincerely, your TEACHER, Sidon, the Zora Prince!

And then, as such, they would all know to be directed to the beach for this lesson, or, if anything, would just naturally assume as much and manage to get the right beach, since these things were very rarely actually specified. It shouldn't be difficult to figure out which one, though, based on the rather large and looming red shark creature waiting with shining yellow eyes and a bright and eager grin filled with teeth and sparkle.

And once it looked like most of them were there, he got started.

"Hello! Good day! Salutations!" he boomed, opening up his arms joyously for his first class, and wasn't this exciting? "And, most of all, welcome! To Underwater Basket Weaving and other Aquatic Arts!" His fist pumped eagerly across his chest. "If you've signed up for this class, wonderful! I'm looking forward to teaching you the thrilling ways of the waves! And if you have not signed up for this class and just happened to wander onto the beach wondering what all this hubbub was about, well, then, welcome to you as well! The more, the merrier, I say! Now, this will be a class that focuses on activities done in the water, and so if there are any issues in that regard I should know about, please do not hesitate to bring them up! But rest assured, you are embarking on this journey with the best swimmer in all of Hyrule and perhaps well beyond, so have confidence in the fact that you are in very safe claws!"

He gave a flash of said claws for emphasis with a joyful laugh, and then snapped into a ready pose, knees bent, fists curled, as if to display just how ready he was to take on the task of instruction!

"Before we get started with today's lesson," he said, "which will, of course, be the titular Underwater Basket Weaving, let us first introduce ourselves! It is, of course, tradition, and I do believe I've seen a few less familiar names this time around, so let us begin!"

Also introductions? Still kind of his favorite.

"As I'm sure you know by now, I am Sidon!" Another mighty pump of his fist, his grin big and bright (and if you listened closely over the waves, you could hear a faint tinkle from the light gleaming off his fangs!). "The Zora Prince! I come from a land called Hyrule, which is very far away, and I used to be a student here myself, not too long ago in this world, but in my world it has been more than thirty years! And I am positively elated to share with you all everything I know about how to make the most of your oceanic, sea-faring, and lake loving experiences! I am a champion waterfall diver back home, one of the strongest swimmers my world has ever seem, and I quite enjoy spending time in the water, although that does come with the territory of being a Zora, as we are an amphibious race that feels most at home when wet! And hopefully you all will, too!

"Now then!" He beamed excitedly down at them all. "Who would like to go next? I would very much like to know all about who you are: what your name is, where you're from, what your experiences with water and water-based activities might be, and also how you feel your strength as a swimmer may be. That will be very useful knowledge for future classes, although don't concern yourself if you find yourself to not be a very strong one, as I will help you out and more than make up for it ! Let's go, then! You there!" He gestured eagerly toward the traditional random person. "How about you start us off? And then we will get to the baskets once everyone's gotten to know each other more and we've begun our aquatic journey into friendship and fun!"

Class was going to be held in the flight shed with the simulators, and Jaina actually looked pretty happy to be back in here.

"Welcome to Flight and Flying," she greeted the class. "I'm Jaina Solo Fel, Fandom alumni and professional pilot." Former. Whatever. "In this class, you're going to get to fly different things from different places. Some of it will be from Earth, you'll get some spaceships, you'll get some other stuff. But today, we're starting with a spaceship because it's my favorite.

"Today we're going to learn about X-wings. You'll have weapons and you'll have shields, so I'm going to run you guys through the basics and then I'm going to let you dogfight. Also, I don't know most of you so tell me who you are and if there's anything you definitely want me to cover,"

“Good morning,” Goose said when class was ready to begin, he had not slept at all last night but he was used to going days without sleep so he’d already had a few cups of coffee and so he was at least alert and functioning for his class.

“I thought we’d start this week’s class with the introductions and then next week we can start focusing on mechanical engineering projects,” he explained.

“So I’m Shane Gooseman, most people call me Goose but I don’t mind if you’d rather call me Shane instead,” he said, “I’m from West Australia, 2107 and I’m based with the Series 5 Galaxy Rangers team where I do a lot of mechanical work for the team, mostly fixing the ships that my team uses,” that he was responsible for why they needed to be repaired but he wasn’t going to mention that right now. “So I’d like to know your name, the year that you’re from and if you have any experience with either mechanical engineering or engineering in general or if you don't what you'd like to learn in this class,” he said.
