"Hey, guys, good morning!" Prompto grinned from where he greeted the students from where he was sitting on the desk. "Hope you've been having a pretty good week so far; not a whole lot going on today except the lesson, but I know you all have pictures to show me from last week's lesson, so let's start with going into those before we get into today's topic. Who's got some good ones they've just been dying to show off, huh?"

By now, they probably knew the drill enough to set up their cameras to show off their pictures so he stayed put on the desk to offer his critiques and praise as they went through them, and once the last student had gone, it was time to get to it. He hopped off the desk, and went to set up his own camera for the days examples.

"Alright, so! Last week, we talked about different types of shots, and now we're going to be moving into different types of photographs. We touched briefly on wildlife photography a few weeks ago when we had those chocochicks," still not over the cuteness of that, by the way!, "and today, we're going to talk about portraits."

Which meant opening to a first example, a dramatic one of who else but Prince Noctis, who had definitely posed for most of these examples, but the class would find that Prompto had roped Gladio and Ignis into a few of them as well.

"Simply put, a portrait is going to basically be a picture of a person, but there's really so much more to it than that! A good portrait is going to capture the...you know...essence of a person, or you'll want to convey a certain mood or characteristic of that person for the people who view. For example, this first picture is really dramatic, makes the subject look very serious and almost a little cold. This one," he switched to the next, "gives a more thoughtful and brooding vibe. While this one," Prompto chuckled a little with that one, "not so much.

"I'll have you all know," he added as an aside, "getting a shot of a smile like that out of this guy is a rare and difficult shot, let me tell you. But you get...hah...the picture. Portraits are all about capturing a person or a mood, and there are definitely some tips and tricks when it comes to taking a portrait that goes a bit beyond just snapping pics of your friends, and we're going to take some time to go over them with some examples."

Which he then did, and then, surprising no one, concluded with, "So next week, I'd like you guys to come in with some portraits to show off. Not self-portraits, mind you! Those will be for a different class! I want you to see if you can get at least three shots, and I'd like them to each try to be a different mood and be of different people. And, of course, always ask beforehand, even if it's a more casual or candid shot. You guys can use the rest of the class to practice some of the techniques mentioned with each other, or if you have any other questions about portrait photography, now's the time to ask."

It look liked today was going to be chilly. It was going to be rainy. And while that would have actually have been perfect for the class Gladio would have liked to have run, even he would have felt a little bad if he wound up getting a bunch of teenage girls (and possibly one mountain cat) sick from being outside in the cold rain for an extended period of time.

So they were not actually traipsing through the wilderness outside in the rain that day. They were, instead, traipsing through the winderness inside the danger shop instead, so they may as well have been, but with a much smaller chance of catching an actual cold.

"Weather!" he started with far too much of a grin for how much rain was being poured on them. "Sometimes, it's a bitch. But you gotta do what you gotta do, so today, we're going to make sure that we know what to do to get safe and dry even when the world seems to be doing its best to make it otherwise. So I'm going to show you some of the best ways to set up a tent, even in the rain, and then we'll work on seeing how you guys do with it. And if you're able to pull it off...there might be some towels and hot chocolate in it at the end for your troubles, too."

There was a television in the simulated tavern this week. Which was possibly a hint as to what was happening today.

"Today is a movie day!" Jaskier proclaimed, just coming out and saying it.

"Mostly because the weather's too miserable for anyone to really concentrate and learn." Look, just because Cara was trained to endure all sorts of conditions didn't mean she liked it being cold and rainy.

Jaskier tilted his head and nodded in agreement with that. "So! Our movie is a stirring tale of action and daring. And a lot of vehicles."

"So in addition to the fighting you'll gain valuable insight into driving." Neither of your teacher's home universes had invented the internal combustion engine yet. Why did you ask?
