It should be noted that Summer did not find anything wrong with any of this; Summer was quite in her element and had been for quite some time, so she didn't think anything at all about her usual trip down into the vault into the charmingly dingy and kitchy home economics classroom, where she'd fit right in with her little gingham-inspired dress that she wore not because of some outdated perception of gender roles in society because clearly patriarchial and mysonginstic expectations were much easier to break down when society as you knew it had been completely dismantled and disrupted, but because it was super cute and thematic and she appreciated the juxtoposition between the roughness of her hunter's battle scars and primness of the dress. Don't even come at her right now.

Not for the dress, anyway. For the food, however...

"Guess what, guys!" she greeted the class brightly, excitedly, which was never a good sign. "We've got fresh meat today!" No, she wasn't going to tell you exactly what the meat was; no, you probably didn't want to know. "I also managed to scrounge up some fresh veg, so today's masterpiece is going to be as bomb as the warhead in the park! We're going to keep it simple, though, with a nice jellied meat mold, so I cannot express enough: presentation is key today if you really want to stand out. To your stations, everyone, and we'll get started!"

Miguel scowled at the Danger Shop computer and thumped it, trying to get the rusty thing to do what he wanted. "Right," he told the students, in between trying to rewire it again, "So today, whether this thing works or not, we've got plenty of spare parts courtesy of the junkyard, and we're working on something that's a bit less fun and a bit more necessary - which should at least make one of you happy." Wayne.

"We'll be building our own reverse osmosis systems to clean radiation from water, portable dosimeters to determine how much radiation we're absorbing, and flamethrowers to help defend against...whatever's out there. If you need any help, ask. If you want to make something else along the same lines, go to town."

He waved them at the boxes of parts. Then thumped the controls again; they sputtered and at least gave out a little more light. "I'll keep trying on this thing."

"So, this week is somehow worse than the last two," Tony said slowly. "Also radiation."

He has so many concerns, kids.

Steve was not great waking up in a 1950s hellscape, either, but he was stubborning his way past it as always. But the park meeting place had been a hard no after seeing the bomb, so the edge of the Preserve it was again, kids! "The wilderness part of our class has gotten a lot more wild than the teal deer," he said. "There are some seriously nasty bugs out there roaming around. So our lesson today is two-fold: how to listen for an avoid big nasty things, and how to disable them--" that means shoot, kids, "--if you can't avoid them."

"Roaches the size of dogs," Tony whispered, shuddering. So, so much wrong with this island. "But it's best to avoid the conflict where possible. So, we'll cover some tracking."

Instructions were shamelessly pulled from the internet, yep.

"Plus the scorpion things," Steve said, making a face as he held up a bag of stun weapons. "If you haven't used a weapon before, raise your hand."

"Those who have, can stick with me. Those who haven't, stay close to Captain Rogers." Division of labor!

Steve nodded, looking much more serious and competent than the last few weeks. "And if you want an escort back to the dorms, let me know that too."

"He just wants to crush bugs with his shield," Tony informed the class solemnly.

Steve grinned, holding up said shield. "It works really well. We found that out walking over here."

From their dystopian nightmare apartment with no food.
