The Mid-Centry Cookbook; Tuesday, First Period [05/28].
It should be noted that Summer did not find anything wrong with any of this; Summer was quite in her element and had been for quite some time, so she didn't think anything at all about her usual trip down into the vault into the charmingly dingy and kitchy home economics classroom, where she'd fit right in with her little gingham-inspired dress that she wore not because of some outdated perception of gender roles in society because clearly patriarchial and mysonginstic expectations were much easier to break down when society as you knew it had been completely dismantled and disrupted, but because it was super cute and thematic and she appreciated the juxtoposition between the roughness of her hunter's battle scars and primness of the dress. Don't even come at her right now.
Not for the dress, anyway. For the food, however...
"Guess what, guys!" she greeted the class brightly, excitedly, which was never a good sign. "We've got fresh meat today!" No, she wasn't going to tell you exactly what the meat was; no, you probably didn't want to know. "I also managed to scrounge up some fresh veg, so today's masterpiece is going to be as bomb as the warhead in the park! We're going to keep it simple, though, with a nice jellied meat mold, so I cannot express enough: presentation is key today if you really want to stand out. To your stations, everyone, and we'll get started!"

You know it's going to be good when it started with boiling your meat.
"And once it's tender, we're going to run it through the blender a little to really get a nice grounded meat texture. And waste not, want not! We're going to cool that water we boiled the meat in as our base for our gelatin, and well as to cook our vegetables."
Which included a few carrots, a few small potatoes, some tiny onions, and (this was the really exciting part) a few stalks of sad, wilty celery for each station. Celery! Summer had been so stoked!
"Anyway, chop up that veg and get 'em in the pot with the broth and cook them until they're tender, though you still want them to be a little firm. And while you're doing that, go ahead and slice up some of these pickles and olives and I've hard-boiled some mirelurk eggs ahead of time so you guys can use those in your jello, too!" Lucky them! "Now go ahead and mix all of this in with the meat, then get your jello going. As soon as it's softened, we're going to just going to pour some of that into the mold of your choice, mix the extra gelatin in with the meat," because why not?, "and then carefully scoop the meat mixture into the mold! If there's anything else you'd like to add to make it truly your own, now's the time, because we're going to set that bad boy in the fridge to cool down and then it's just all presentation, baby. While we're waiting, you can get everything you'd like for presentation set and ready, and I'm excited to see how they turn out!"
And to actually try them.
No, for real.
Times is tough.
