Peridot had a pillow strapped to her forehead today.

Why did Peridot have a pillow strapped to her forehead today?

Because Peridot had learned the hard way that ice was slippery. She had also learned the hard way that ice was hard. And Peridot, who had never been great at walking on her natural feet without benefit of her limb enhancers in the first place, had done an almost comedic amount of skittering and flailing about before managing to retreat, fairly unscathed, back to the dorms to don some manner of protective equipment.

Sure, the ice was all on the streets, not in the library, but she wasn't taking any chances. Getting damaged because the island was being cute was not on her list of things to do today.

If anybody needed her, today she would be researching the construction of flamethrowers.

No reason.

The email just barely went out in time to hopefully catch the students before they actually left for class. Jenkins had had to have some . . . instruction on how to send an actual email.

Dear students,

My apologies. Of the many things I do well, ice skating is not one of them. There will be no class today. Go out and try to find an interesting animal on the island, if you like.

If you choose to stay inside like a reasonable person, I will not blame you.

Sincerely,
Jenkins

[I was struck low by a 24 hour blergh yesterday, so I didn't manage to pre-write class. Have another snow day.]

Practical Diplomacy

Anakin was from the desert and while he'd married a peppy New Englander, he was Not at All Peppy about the the weather.

Which was why he still had his hood up as he stood glowering at the class. "Right," he said. "Sometimes you get assigned to a place where the weather is stupid. Either it rains constantly, or it's too hot, or it's snowy and practically April--you have to learn to adapt."

Or whine. Anakin prefered to whine. Think of it as part of his glorious Skywalker heritage.

He gestured at a variety of clothing on racks. "For the Jedi, it's easy. We wear robes on every planet, whether we're sweating to death or not. But for diplomats without a set uniform, you have to pack more carefully. Today, you are going away from your capital for a month. You can only pack one bag and have to prepare for all weathers and a variety of receptions, boring meetings, and potentially fleeing for your life. because your government is not terribly organized. Pick your outfits and explain why you chose them. Make sure to have at least one pair of sensible shoes."

Verity still had some important Easter preparations to get to, so no class today.

Hey all, field trip for this week: head into the woods and start to speak. Recite a monologue, read a book out loud, recite song lyrics, whatever floats your boat. See what happens. What can you tell me about what you observed next week?

It was a legitimate assignment!

Mostly.

[Guess who forgot it was Wednesday!]
