geniuswithasmartphone: (Explaining (Finger Up))

"Sometimes," Hardison said, "you wanna make art but you don't have the supplies. No oils, no paints, no pencils, no brushes, no cameras, not even pens or pencils to doodle with. But so long as you got even a single sheet of paper, you can make art."

Not that Hardison was going to limit them to just a single sheet of paper. Every table had several boxes of paper in various thicknesses, colors, and even designs. "I'm sure most of y'all know origami, the Japanese art form of paper foldin', though China an' Korea have their own versions as well. One German artist, Simon Schubert even uses small folds and creases in his art to create images that almost look painted on."

He started passing out books with patterns for people to copy if they wanted to get a start on paper folding.

"There's also the art of quillin', which takes strips of paper an' then rolls, twists, or folds 'em and then glues 'em down into patterns an' shapes to create a three-dimensional picture. These often to lead to bright an' colorful images as several different colors of paper are used. One popular method of quillin' involves using paper that has different colors an' images on either side, so as it's twisted, you get flashes of both sides throughout the pattern."

All right class, get to folding.

There were puppies in class. Not real puppies because then at least one of your teachers would end up with all of them going home with them, but the Danger Shop was pretty damn good at making puppies.

So good that Magnus was on the floor, giggling like a madman as a dozen puppies swarmed him.

Meanwhile, Cara was trying to ignore the handful of puppies sitting expectantly at her feet. "This was supposed to be a class on how animals can be both company and an aide on your adventures, but I let someone else program the sim."

"They're so cute!" Yes, Magnus rolled a nat fuckin' 20 on those puppies. So, this was the best day of his liiiiiiife. He lifted up a puppy to show her how awesome it was.

Cara was refusing to be charmed by the puppy. Refusing. No matter how adorable it was with it's too big feet and squirmy tail. "In any case, training is more effective if started at a young age."

Stop trying to salvage the class, Cara, it was already ruined. In the most adorable way.

It was trying to lick everyone in it's excitement "But you also have to love them even as you're firm in the rules. No peeing in the house. No running off the edge of the moon. That sort of thing," Magnus said, cuddling that puppy close.

Cara wasn't going to comment on that moon thing. "Discipline and consistency are key." So two things they weren't going to find with these two teaching.

"And cuddles!" Magnus added with complete sincerity. "They need to know you love them."

"So, hygiene!" Of course the week Sparkle thought to try to get himself employed at the fancy bath place, that was the week he got around to doing this lesson again. "This is a hard one. And one of the most important. You're not going to get a job if you smell like dumpster diving, and not many people are going to let you into their public bathroom to get cleaned up if you're already filthy. So you have to stay on top of things, and there's a lot to account for that most people take for granted when they have homes. Some people grow beards they gotta keep trim and tidy, for example. Some people get periods. God, the stories I have heard about what some people do to keep clean during their periods will amaze and astound."

Sponge baths and a whole paragraph about periods, mostly. )
