[Class #10 - The A-Maze-ing Job]

Eliot and Parker had let Hardison play with the Danger Shop controls again. Which was why the Danger Shop now looked like something out of Minos's worst nightmare. "Hey, y'all," he said, giving the class a wave when they walked in. "Welcome to your next class on teamwork. Today, you're all gonna have to deal with..." He gestured extravagantly to the labyrinth behind them. "...this."

“One person on your team is Nat-- the navigator,” Parker corrected herself. “The others are going to be blindfolded. You have to get your whole team through the maze, which is amazing, and we’re playing hide and seek in there later, guys.”

"After everyone makes it out an' only them folks who want to go back in again," Hardison amended quickly. "Other folks can hang out an' eat snacks if they want. You know, in however much time y'all have after solvin' the labyrinth." They had significantly less than thirteen hours to do so, too. "Now, don't worry, navigators. You ain't gotta be in charge the whole time. At different points in the maze, the position of navigator will switch to the next person. And then that person gets to lead the rest of the team until it's time to change again."

"Your team loses points every time someone blindfolded bumps into somethin' that ain't a teammate," Eliot said. "So navigators are gonna wanna stay on your toes. There are a few surprises in there, too. Try not to injure yourselves."

Clint was in a better mood today than he'd probably been in weeks, with Kitty being alive and... well, relatively well. While that meant he'd actually be pleasant to talk to in class, running back and forth between Kitty's world and Fandom hadn't left him with a lot of time to plan for this week. So, when everyone showed up for class, he yelled, "Field trip!" and led the students through town to Dite's Decadent Delights.

"So, somewhere in the beginning of our time together I mentioned this place," he said as they stood outside the store. "Now, if you don't want to explore our friendly neighborhood sex shop, you can spend this time at the Perk or JGOB or anywhere else in town you want, and it won't affect your grade. If you do want to check the place out, then let's head inside, and hopefully I can answer any questions you have." As long as no one picked up anything really weird, he'd probably be good for some answers.

Bond was not wearing track pants today, this was probably a good sign.

"Good morning," he said. "Now, as you may have noticed, last week's class was somewhat irregular, but it does illustrate an important kind of deception, saving face. We all have our moments that we'd prefer not to have happened due to the effect on either our dignity or our reputation, doubly so on this island. But since we can't alter the past, we have to work around them, either by pretending they never happened." This was called repression, Bond was very good at it. "Or by coming up with some kind of explanation for our behaviour which casts us in a better light."

"So today I'd like you to split into pairs, and come up with an explanation for some kind of bizarre behaviour you've just or are still committing. Then swap, or find a new partner and repeat. Now, to make things even more interesting, and replicate the effect of things like gremlin bites, your partner will be the one coming up with what you did when they ask why you did it."

"Well, since last class went so well," which was to say, few of you had any sense of self-preservation, but at least no one had died, "we'll be going with another simulation." Bob eyed them all. "There are a large number of supernatural beings out there of the canine persuasion. Most of them are not well-intentioned."

He wrote their names in the air as he said them. "The black dog, of which there are various subtypes, cŵn annwn, grim, werewolf and various other lycanthropes, cù sìth, and cerberus - which is a type of dog, not only one, despite the legends.

He described each in detail before turning on the simulation, which this week was low, rolling hills, scrub, and a few small sections of forest. There were also some caves in one area which they would probably discover on their own. "Head out. Observe them in their native habitats. Please, try not to antagonise them."

"Tomorrow is a pretty important day in a lot of different places," Josh said. "Here in the US, we call it Veterans Day, but around the world it's known as Remembrance Day or Armistace Day, and it commemorates the end of World War I on November 11, 1911, at 11:11 in the morning because if you've already got a theme, go for the whooooole theme. Anyway, it's a time to remember people who have fought in combat zones. And sometimes people get confused about what counts as a veterans as opposed to a member of the military, and get it confused with Memorial Day, which is set aside to remember everyone who died, in particular. This is to say thank you to those who are still with us, and also to remember those who aren't. So naturally, there are speeches."

He took a sip from his coffee. "I want you to give me a speech about a veteran you either know or have looked up information about, and explain why it's important to remember them even after they are out of the military. And maybe, just maybe, fund their medical expenses and potential mental health issues and make sure they have a job and stuff."

Not that Josh had opinions. Cough. "Anyway, you have the first half of the period to research and the second to wow me with you words. Go."
