"Expanding on the theme of last week," Bob said, "being careful of your wording. A great many creatures - through either mischievous designs or simple-mindedness - are liable to be overly literal when adhering to an agreement. Or, conversely, interpret words in novel ways. So, today, we're going to do a little exercise." He pointed at a student randomly. "You. Ask for something. Nothing here is binding, so make it as extravagant as you like. The rest of you, you're all magical beings of some sort. Say what you might do to grant that request in some way the asker isn't intending. Then we'll go around the room, and each of the rest of you do the same. I'll also offer my assistance."

He looked around at them and nodded. "Well. What would you each like?"

Teamwork Class

[Class #6 - The Tapped-Out Job]

“So some of you are maybe exhausted from family drama, or missing family, or crowds, or maybe overly-ambitious clowns this week.” Parker was giving everyone looks of sympathy. “That’s why we’re being nice to you, and why we have all these huge pillow chairs. And a movie!”

"If you really wanna go above an' beyond, you could maybe take notes about how the team has to work together to successfully pull off this heist, but we ain't gonna make folks do that if they don't wanna," Hardison told them.

Mostly because the whole movie was laughable to a crew of actual thieves.

"If anyone starts snoring, I'm throwin' things at ya," Eliot said. "Other than that, relax and enjoy the movie."

Bond's class were back in a normal classroom this week, so it looked like it'd be another discussion week.

"Good morning, class, I trust you all survived the weekend relatively unscathed," he greeted them once they'd all arrived. "Though it does provide a lead in to the ethics of lying. Now, I would assume that regardless of your own feelings on the matter, all of you have at one time or another been told that lying is wrong, either morally, ethically, or legally. However I would also assume that at least some of you lied over the past few days, either to your own guests or to someone else's.

"So today we're to to discuss what kind of lies you might have told this weekend, and why you might have done so, and what made that situation different to one where you wouldn't lie."

When the students arrived to class today, they'd find Clint at the front of the room typing into a tablet.

Hey guys, said an automated computerized voice from the tablet. I am sick and lost my voice so there will not be much of a lecture today. We were supposed to talk about communication, ha ha ha. Yes, Clint thought that was funny, shhh. You cannot have a healthy sexual relationship without communicating with your partner. If they want sex once a week and you want it once a day, things will not work unless you talk. Today, I want you to take a quiz about your interpersonal skills, and then talk to each other about what you will have to do to communicate with your future partners about your needs.

Meanwhile, Clint would be over here with all the hot tea ever, listening to you all like a silent creeper.

"Afternoon, folks," Josh said, drinking from his coffee in a shocking change of pace surprising to no one. "Hey, everyone," Josh said. "There's been a recent news story about this woman in Kentucky who won't do her job--" tell us how you really feel, Josh, "--of signing wedding licenses for people in her county because she doesn't believe people who are the same sex should get married."

Josh snorted. "I didn't think we should fund stupid things like Congressional salaries, but I still showed up for work in the government every day. Anyway, she's been in the news a lot and someone managed to wrangle her a rope line pass at the Pope, who is the ruler of about a zillion Catholics around the world. She's not a Catholic, by the way, and is part of religion that thinks he's going straight to hel,l but don't expect a lot of internal consistency from this lady. Anyway, she met him, he gave her a rosary and a kind of rote reply and got on a plane, and then her lawyers got on the news media crowing about how him meeting with her was endorsing her position."

He shrugged. "Now don't get me wrong, Catholicism isn't exactly a font of liberal social thinking on this front, but the Pope seems to be embracing the 'don't be a dick' philosophy, which I'm pretty sure was what the Beautitudes would be if they were distilled for the Twitter generation. So after a few days of awkwardness, the Vatican finally came out with a 'nooooo, that's not really what happened, turns out the Pope pretty much has no idea who this lady is and the archbishop who arranged this meeting is Quite Fired', but her lawyers are still doubling down on this meeting."

"So, as people in a class on Speech, what's their next play? Do they call the Pope a liar?"

This week the Danger Shop was filled with large cushions, pillows, blankets, and overstuffed chairs, with two large whiteboards at the front and a pile of notebooks and pens by the door.

"Some of you may have already noticed that the island has decided to be strange today," Ghanima said cheerfully, once everyone had arrived. "In this case, it would appear the singing urge has hit us all again, so we're going to talk, write, or sing about some of the recurring bouts of whimsey the island sends us."

"Also, all of you can feel free to take a notepad and paper with you today, if you think you'll have any luck writing down what you want to say and keeping your singing voice private."

"You could always try expressing yourself in interpretive dance," Tahiri added, because she would never get over the impulse to be a smartass from time to time. "Though given the diversity of our student body there's no guarantee it'll be interpreted the way you intended."

They mostly succeeded at not singing. Mostly. )
