The class met up at the edge of the preserve again, this time, where Eliot and Parker waited, wearing white coveralls and safety goggles on their heads. The usual duffel bags of supplies were on the ground by their feet, and accompanied by several large buckets of what looked like balloons.

"Slightly different plan today," Eliot said, when it seemed like everyone was gathered. "We're sticking together as a group."

“If you don’t want to play, you can hide, but really, why would you want to?” Parker would never get that. “Everybody gets a set of coveralls, and goggles. The paint is biodegradable, but let’s not test what it does to your eyes.”

"It does wash outta your hair, though," Eliot said with a wink. "I promise."

What? Those folks with fancy hair had to stick together.

"We'll be hiking out to a clearing before we get started. There are four buckets of paint balloons here, with a few more already tucked away out there, so lots of chances to re-arm yourselves. I guess . . . technically if you come out clean by the end of class you won? But then you probably also didn't have any fun. We're not really plannin' to keep score."

“Grab a color, grab a cover, get ready, go!” Parker was holding a balloon with blue paint.

Yes, Eliot was going to be blue very very soon.

Yeah, he was getting that feeling.

"When we get to the clearing," Eliot said. "I see any balloons flying before then, I will be very put out."

Pbbbbbbttt.

Today Bond led his students down to one of the wider streets of Fandom, where a number of abandoned rickshaws waited by a start line.

"Good afternoon," he greeted them. "Now one thing about relaxing, is that occasionally someone will come up with an idea that at best sounds dangerously unwise, like driving fast cars, skydiving, swimming with sharks, that kind of thing. And for some people, these activities turn out to be highly successful. Possibly because of the adrenaline rush, possibly because they have a latent deathwish."

"So today you're going to try your hands at rickshaw racing, which on an island like this, is as close to driving fast cars as I'm allowed to let you do outside the Danger Shop. I've marked out a circuit around the island, so find rickshaw to your liking, assemble at the staring line, and when I give the signal, start."

Today when the class entered the Danger Shop, They would find the environment to be resembling that of Mount Olympus. Statues of the Greek Gods surrounded the site. And as part of the class exercise, Jones was wearing an outfit similarly worn by ancient Greeks.

"As humans began to progress in their knowledge, they became more established in communities. Agriculture played a large part of this settling as humans stayed in one place to tend crops instead of hunting and gathering. However once humanity began to establish itself in a stable form, another significant develop began. One of thought.

She gestured around the room. "What you see here is an edifice of another time. One where mankind sought to find answers to questions no one on this planet had ever thought before. 'How did the world come to being? What is my place in the universe?' These simple questions brought about a line of thought which led to the development of philosphy and religion. Most of the Western world tend to think of ancient Greece as the birthplace of such thought, but other cultures around the world had similar aspects, including Africas, Native Americans and Asians."

"Most of these thoughts started with simple tales which grew into myths. It is mankind's gift of creativity which spawned this tales leading to the belief of a higher power. Native Americans tell a tale of the god Coyote, who placed the stars in the sky. The story of Osirus and Isis tell a tale of death and rebirth as well as the roots of Agriculture. In Greek myths it is Prometheus who brought the gift of fire to mankind and Demeter who brought about the change of seasons."

She gestured to the class to sit. "Today, I would like to hear any myths from your world. If you are from Earth, I would like to hear your favorite."

Today, Ben's class was meeting on the roof of the dorms. Ben had brought up a few dozen raw eggs, and materials--balsa wood, cardboard, packing material, parachute silk and other moddable objects--and was wearing a smirk on his face.

"As you learned last week, an important part of any mechanical object that you'd want to ride in is making sure the landing won't kill you. Rather than jumping off the building to determine gravity's still working--and it is--we're going to fix up landing gear for these eggs, then toss them off the roof and see how well you did."

Mmm, splattered eggs everywhere. Lucky you, people walking into the dorms.

"To make this sporting, you need to make three: one in fifteen minutes, one in thirty, and the final can take you a full hour." He held up a stopwatch. "Ready...go!"
