Today, Ben's class was meeting on the roof of the dorms. Ben had brought up a few dozen raw eggs, and materials--balsa wood, cardboard, packing material, parachute silk and other moddable objects--and was wearing a smirk on his face.

"As you learned last week, an important part of any mechanical object that you'd want to ride in is making sure the landing won't kill you. Rather than jumping off the building to determine gravity's still working--and it is--we're going to fix up landing gear for these eggs, then toss them off the roof and see how well you did."

Mmm, splattered eggs everywhere. Lucky you, people walking into the dorms.

"To make this sporting, you need to make three: one in fifteen minutes, one in thirty, and the final can take you a full hour." He held up a stopwatch. "Ready...go!"

This wasn't exactly Ronan's strength but working with his hands was something distracting enough to keep his thoughts off other things.

Mostly. He got started on some really rough looking egg drop containers. Couldn't help drawing a raven on a few of them.

Ben grinned as he watched. "Will the pictures make it more aerodynamic?"

Cosima wasn't sure where to start on this one, so she began by making a teeny box and wadding up cotton wool to nestle around an egg inside. Her theory was that the cotton would be resilient enough to absorb the impact, but stiff enough to keep the egg from moving.

Fifteen minutes later, she was ready to see if she was right.

"The box should," Cosima grinned at him. "I'm not so sure abut the egg, but that's why we're in class, right?"

Or eggs. Everyone'll be waiting on the ground as you drop your three little darlings. How many turn to scrambled eggs?

Barry had taken his role as TA a step further and had set up a small camp stove as an omelet station.

The sign next to his set up simply read: "Eat your failures."

Hey. He wasn't about to let good eggs go to waste.
