It was the last day of class and Hatter had absolutely no exam planned. None. Nothing. What could he possibly quiz these kids when they probably wouldn't recall it five minutes from now and would do better to experience the ins and outs of doing business while actually doing business.

"I've got no exam for you," he told them, shrugging. "I guess that means you all are oh so lucky. My final parting words are to remember that you're never too big to be fired, don't steal money unless you know you're not going to get caught -- "

He wasn't a very good man, okay?

" -- and always have a good hook. For today's class, I've brought you here to the computer lab with one purpose. Choose one of the business games here and get going. Remember what you've learned and see how well you do. Get to it. Shoo."

He waved them off and then sat down himself.

"Welcome to your final class of the semester. As mentioned last week, we're going to Gotham City from my time," Bruce said. "When you compare your experiences there to what you saw of present day Gotham at the stat of the semester, remember that this is a fifty year change. In many ways, five decades is almost an infinite amount of time. The world can and does change many times over and your major world cities will reflect that."

"But on the other hand, you'll likely see a fifty year change in your lifetime. You know many people who've been alive longer than that. The world moves quickly, but it's still the world you've lived with to some degree, so in some ways things might not be as different as you think."

"Let's step through the portal. No costume changes this time. Some of you might appreciate having real collars and pockets."

And when they stepped through the portal, it was into a world that still felt like Gotham City... but it was more meta for Akira than Art Deco.

"Watch out for flying cars and Jokerz."

"So, it's our last class together," Rinoa said, leaning back against the desk as she surveyed the crowd of students. "There isn't a final, as I'm sure you've guessed. It hasn't been that kind of a class. All Jono and I wanted to do, really, was give you guys a space to talk about who you are, and understand the parts of yourself that get complicated. Not just powers, if you have them, but being you, a teenager, and how sometimes it's hard to be just-you if you do have powers, but it's not impossible. The way that all of it intersects."

She was rambling again. They had to expect that by now.

"Today we want you guys to write down a paragraph," she said. "Just tell us if the class was helpful at all, anything that was useful from it, anything you may have learned or thought about or considered from a new viewpoint as a result. If you didn't learn anything, or think about anything, you can just leave it blank. And then you can go, or you can stay and talk to either of us, or each other, if you'd like."

She hesitated, glancing over at Jono before continuing on. She hadn't really cleared this part with her co-teacher; she hadn't even realized she was going to say it before just this moment.

"When I was your age, I felt so alone," she said. "I mean, I had friends, plenty of them, but I'm the only Sorceress in my world. I know Jono's not the only mutant, in his, but it's still hard, being Different in a world of people who are mostly Normal. Maybe it's not the case for you; maybe you're totally normal, where you're from, and that's a good thing. But if you ever feel alone, like I did, and like no one understands, or like you need to talk to someone about all the messiness you're going through ... I work down at the Magic Box. Come find me and we can have tea or something. I don't know that I'll know how to help, but I can always listen. You aren't alone, okay?"

Jono nodded his assent. //I'm not teaching this next term, but I'll be down at Groovy Tunes. You're all welcome to stop in any time. Day or night.//

Rinoa grinned, glad that he didn't mind her improvising. (And that he agreed, but really, she'd expected that one.) "We live over the store," she said. "And we're generally up late, so if it's two AM, we're probably awake, watching bad horror movies. Anyway. That's all I wanted to say."
