Pinkie had gold glitter on her face. Not in a "I had glitter on my hands and scratched my cheek and now it's on my face" way. In a "I stuck my nose into a bag of glitter to eat it like a horse eating oats" kind of way. A glittery goatee, if you will.

She didn't seem to have noticed.

It was okay, everyone would notice it for her. Derek, on the other hand, would steadfastly ignore it like a pro. If he didn't look at it, he didn't have to notice the glitter beard happening over there. "Today, the cakes are about consolation."

"Because not all cakes are happy cakes," Pinkie agreed. "Sometimes you need a cake because you're sad."

Who didn't enjoy gorging themselves on sugary goodness when dealing with bad day? Or, in Derek's case, a bad life. "The key is picking flavors the person will like. Like chocolate and peanutbutter."

Pinkie gasped. "I love chocolate!" Because that was a surprise to anypony. "And you should have a nice message on it, too! Like this!" And she pulled out an uncanny cake-copy of the internet favorite gold "you tried" star.

Of course she did. But, luckily for the class, Derek was there to balance out that intense optimism with his own internet meme cake. "Or this," he added.

That got you a side-eye from the glitter-bearded pink pony, Derek. "The important thing is that you don't make your friend cry more," she said. "So . . . you know best!"

When the students arrived in the classroom, they'd each find a can of Coca-Cola waiting for them on their desks.

"I hope you can forgive me for cancelling class last week," Thor said apologetically once everyone had settled in. "There was a formal event in Asgard that required my attendance, and I did not have enough time to secure a suitable replacement before I had to leave. But moving on, if you grew up in this realm and time, or one close enough, I'm sure you're familiar with the beverages referred to as 'sodas'," he held up his own can. "And if you're new to Fandom, you've probably at least seen the beverage at one of the school's social gatherings, even if you've not yet had the chance to try it." He paused to take a sip of his drink before continuing.

"Though the taste is agreeable to many, making it quite popular, there are no real health benefits to this particular beverage. Meaning that, like other indulgences such as pastries or alcoholic beverages, it should be imbibed in moderation." Okay so the alcohol thing was more of a 'do what I say and not what I do' sort of thing but... human physiology was different from Asgardian. Thor knew this now. "However, there are some who are so concerned about the potential dangers of over-indulgence that they have invented fantastical tales regarding what this beverage is supposedly capable of. "My favourite is the claim that, if left overnight, a glass of this beverage will dissolve something such as a coin- or your teeth, because of the acids contained in the liquid. As I looked further in to this claim, I discovered that these 'acids' are present in many foods and beverages that are commonly consumed, with no ill effects, because they are present in such small quantities. Furthermore, when you drink something, you are not going to hold it there in your mouth for longer than a few seconds. That's not enough time for anything consumable by humans to dissolve anything."

"So," he grinned. "The rumour that this beverage will dissolve your teeth is simply that- a rumour, started by those who wished to frighten others away from consuming it. But as long as you remember that too much of anything- like sugar, which this drink contains plenty of- is not good for your body, feel free to enjoy imbibing it on occassion." Which he was going to do now, thank you.

Jones sent her students a reminder via email to join her at Portalocity for class today. She arrived early and waited in the cold weather without a jacket or coat other than the suit she was wearing.

"Today there is an event in my dimension involving some of my former students," she began. "As Cassandra's topic involves the study of magic, I thought it would be beneficial to her to see another type of magical environment. As the semester progresses we will be taking field trips that will involve Eleanor and Sparkle's topics."

"Before we enter the wood, I will caution you not to leave the clearing we are entering. There are dangers in the forest and I cannot protect you if you choose to wander away. Additionally I would be cautious around the beings known as Coyote and Ysengrin. One is a god and the other is losing whatever slight grip he has on his sanity."

And with those welcome words of happiness and light, Jones stepped through the portal expecting her students to follow her.
