Class had technically been in session for a couple minutes by the time Bruce strolled casually into the classroom. Because that's where you were today, class! Don't worry, he would make it up to you in future classes.

"Good morning, everyone. In case you don't know me, I'm Bruce Wayne. Please, call me Bruce," he said. "In my world, I run Wayne Enterprises, the multi-national conglomerate my parents started. Frankly, I let other people worry about most of the day-to-day business there while I focus on my parents' other major contribution, The Wayne Foundation. A hefty percentage of Wayne Enterprise's revenue as well as my personal fortune goes into funding the Foundation's efforts in more charitable areas than I can count, including donations to this school."

"And that's why I'm a first time teacher who didn't get a teaching buddy," Bruce joked. It was funny to him, at least.

"What I really want to do with this workshop is try to make sure some Fandom High students get in the habit of giving their time to charitable efforts of all sorts, not just your typical Fandom alternate realities, invasions, and other things like that. We'll be starting out small with a bake sale next week, but by the end of the session, you'll be part of a gala event where you will be expected to schmooze with people to make sure they donate money."

"The proceeds from any fundraising activities will be split in half. Half will go to the school while half will go to organizations in need on the mainland. Just because Fandom is a weird neighbor doesn't mean it shouldn't be a good neighbor, after all."

"But for this week, we're going to keep it simple. Please introduce yourself, state why you're interested in charitable works, and if you have anything specific you'd like to do this session, please, let me know. I'm open to suggestions. After that, I have plenty of recipies if you want to get a head start on figuring out what you're going to make to sell at the bake sale next week."

"Oh, and if you have any specific questions, you can either talk to me or my TAs," Bruce said, grabbing a note from his suit's coat pocket. "They are Bay Kennish and Barry Ween. If it ever seems like I have no idea what I'm doing as a teacher, look to them and see how hard they're eyerolling."

Class was held in the Danger Shop today, which was programmed to look like a large warehouse full of crates and boxes. After suitable time to let the students gather, the lights flickered off and the instructor's voice came over the loudspeaker. Jack herself was nowhere to be seen.

"When the lights come on, a bunch of husks are gonna show up," she intoned. "They're mean, they ain't cute, and they fall apart like wet tissue paper with a good headshot. Guns and ammo will be by the door where you came in or use whatever other powers you have. I'm watching. And I have popcorn."

"Oh, and before you wet yourselves, this is all one big sim, so don't freak that you're gonna get killed for real."

And then the lights came back on, revealing the promised husks. They groaned a bit before charging straight at the students.

Welcome to Teamwork, boys and girls. Don't worry, the teacher will explain her point later.

Cara had her class meet her out by the preserve, because she saw no reason to use the Danger Shop when she didn't need any of its more interesting features. Yet.

"My name is Cara," she said, after waiting what she considered a reasonable amount of time for any stragglers. "This class is 'Want to be a Hero?' and I hope you all actually read the description instead of just the name because otherwise you may be disappointed, which would be a terrible shame." She thought about asking for a show of hands on the matter, but she suspected that would just disappoint her.

"Let me be clear," Cara drawled. "This is not a class about learning to throw your life away in some useless, idiotic romantic fashion which accomplishes nothing, because even if there is such a thing as heroes in any world, the vast majority of people aren't, and even the ones that aren't actively malicious are often unable or unwilling to help more than a few others in any meaningful fashion. This class is about drumming enough skills and sense into that if you do happen too find yourself in some kind of situation where the fate of the world rests in your hands, you'll actually manage to do something effective about that, and that even if you do die you'll accomplish something in the process."

"Now, you're probably all sick of introductions at this point, but apparently I'm not allowed to call students 'hey, you' until I learn their names you have one more round of them before forgetting about them for the next few months," Cara said. "I want your names, why you signed up for this, and what exactly you think being a hero means. That'll give me an idea of what exactly I'm dealing with here."

"One final thing to keep in mind, Surreal over there is my lovely and charming assistant." Tellingly, any sarcasm there was on the word 'assistant'. "I trust her to have more common sense than any of you, so listen to anything she has to say."
