"So," Hannibal began with little preamble, "one of the most important things to remember - never try cooking anything for somebody else first. Unless you don't mind offending them," he added with a smile. "You never know when ingredients will behave differently than you expect, or something will take longer, or there are steps in the recipe missing. Always have a test run."

He leaned on the counter. Next week is ours. )

//Right then, back to it,// Jono said, arms crossed over his chest and leaning back against the desk as class began. //The syllabus was thrown out a window somewhere around the time I lost my head, but we've got a few weeks left to salvage this thing, so this week we're going to discuss setting goals.//

Good lord, that almost sounded like a legitimate class discussion topic, right there.

At lunchtime, there was pizza in the usual room where the Student Council met, but there was also cake. Two cakes, actually, one vanilla and one chocolate, in case people had a strong preference one way or the other.

"Well now, it's been a hell of a few weeks, huh?" she said, smiling at them. If anyone noticed there was a sockpuppet sitting with Zoe's things... well shhh, just go with it. "This is our last meeting of the year. We don't really have to plan anything for graduation - the other folks in charge and I will get things done and I'm sure the island will find a way to help, as usual." She wasn't sighing, she was just exhaling with strength. "I just wanted to thank you all for the work you've put into this year, and if you're not graduating and leaving us, I hope to see you here again in the fall. Unless anyone has anything they want to discuss, I say we dig into the cake."

When you walked into the lab today, you might wonder why exactly there were a whole bunch of balloons floating around with small weights tied to strings to keep them from floating all the way to the ceiling. Don't worry, there was a good reason for them.

"We're having an experiment today, and it's one I like to call 'Fun With Balloons,'" James announced as he started pushing the balloons toward the students. "They're filled with helium, which means it's legitimate science and they're fun to play with. If I can make a suggestion - and I can, because I'm the teacher - I think you should untie one of them, inhale some helium, and talk in high pitched voices. But that's just me. You're the ones doing the experiments."

"Oh, and don't inhale too much. You don't want to starve your brain of oxygen. I'm pretty sure that could happen. I think it happened to a friend's cousin. Someone check Snopes."

Today, both of the teachers were back: hooray!

However, both of the teachers were once again in costume: ...maybe less hooray?

No, totally still hooray )
