"The President's health care deadline--the big effing deal, to paraphrase the Vice President--came up last week, and the numbers of enrollees are in: more than 7 million people have signed up, even with the website problems they had that first month. Now the right wing media is spinning like crazy, accusing the administration of bulking up the numbers, or deciding they might not be the right kinds of people--that is, young healthy people, not old sick ones-- who have signed up. Last month they were proclaiming that there was no way the President could even hit his goal because apparently they have never seen the lines at the post office the night that taxes are due and don't understand that Americans are procrastinators."

He took a sip from his coffee. "My question is this: if the President managed to spin straw into gold or discover life in outer space or the key to immortality, how would the right wing media spin those to be a horrible thing? Go."

So Thor didn't always wear his armor these days, since unlike his first few excursions to Midgard, an extended stay meant he didn't necessarily always have to be battle-ready. Today, though, he made a point to show up in jeans and a hoodie.

"Sometimes," he began, "a journey will take you to unfamiliar lands, where you may be required to dress a certain way to fit in, or be able to complete a particular task. So today I thought we'd explore those possibilities," he gestured to the racks of clothing that lined the back of the classroom, containing everything from armor to tuxedoes. "Choose a type of clothing that you have never worn before, and put it on. Then, spend some time getting used to moving in it. Can you see yourself weilding a weapon? Would your weapon have to be concealed, if you had one? In what situations would this type of clothing be practical?"

"I thought this week we could open the floor," Herc said. "I've tried to be as broad as I could, but my experience of what it means to be famous is only one version. What's different for you, either in your experience or observation? And how do you cope with that? Let's just discuss."

Not much of a lecture today, no, but participation weeks didn't need it, did they?

"Today, I thought we could do something fun," Mindy said as she greeted the class on the corner of Sphinx and Mallard, where she had asked them to meet. "So, we are going on a totally illegal field trip to a little store in town that I will actually not accompany you into. For legal reasons. I have already gotten in enough trouble with the Department of Education for contributing to the sexualization of minors, or whatever. Excuse me for thinking kids should have condoms!"

That was a long ramble with very little explanation in it.

"This shop we are visiting is called Dite's Decadent Delights. Although I will not chaperone you while you are shopping, I strongly encourage you to treat yourselves to something nice. If you have any questions about what things are, please ask a sales assistant or come see me on this bench across the street from the store. Discreetly, please. I am concerned that this is more against the rules than I counted on."
