"Today, we're going to look at one of the something a few of you may be familiar with and a few of you may not be," Paige said, smiling at the assembled class. "It's the staple of sleepovers and a horror movie staple. Yes, it's the Ouija board."

Paige held up one of said Ouija boards, showing it to the students.

"The Ouija board also known as a spirit board or talking board, is a flat board marked with the letters of the alphabet, the numbers 0–9, the words "yes", "no", "hello", and "goodbye", along with various symbols and graphics. It uses a planchette, which is a small, heart-shaped piece of wood or movable indicator to indicate the spirit's message by spelling it out on the board during a seance. Participants place their fingers on the planchette, and it is moved about the board to spell out words."

She settled the board on her desk before continuing on the lecture. "Mainstream religions and some occultists have associated use of a Ouija board with the concept of demonic possession, and view the use of the board as a spiritual threat and have cautioned their followers not to use a Ouija board. Despite being criticized by the scientific community and deemed demonic by Christians, Ouija remains popular among many people. So, this is what we're going to be doing today. Pair up, get in groups, however you'd like to do it and grab one of the Ouija boards I have up here. Ask the Ouija a question and see if it responds."

She herself remembered playing the game at a sleepover with friends when she was very young but remembered it not working at all. Still, maybe the class would have better results.

If there was anything amiss, Kaidan'd been spending too much time off-island to notice. There was no particular urgency in his bearing as he met the students just outside the school; in fact, he was smiling. "We're going to do another obstacle course today," he said, "Except this time, we're doing it outside. The set-up is pretty simple: I want you guys to do a lap around the old part of the island as fast as you can."

"The only catch is that, where possible, you need to use your powers to get around. I don't care if that means setting up an illusion of yourself doing the track, or using an elaborate series of transformations to parkour around the buildings. Just use them."

A pause. "But don't take any stupid risks," he added. "If you're not sure you can make something, don't. And don't use offensive powers, or you'll be endangering someone else."

He tapped his omni-tool, displaying a map. "This will be your course," he said. "And to sweeten the pot, the first person here gets a free pizza next week."

Anakin had a pounding headache this morning that was only partially caused by hearing the words "Jamie Madrox" on the radio before he came to class. (The other half was a sensation that Obi-Wan was watching him just out of the corner of his eye and that was very annoying, Obi-Wan.)

So class was just a classroom today instead of an elaborate simulation. "It hasn't escaped your notice by now that something odd--even for our standards--is happening on the island," he began, sitting down to be on the same level as the students, "and half of the name of this class is 'influencing people', which indicates leadership skills. Which people do you think we should be trying to influence, and what should we be asking them to do? Nothing physically dangerous has happened to anyone: switching genders or personalities isn't exactly a jail-worthy offense and it's not their fault they woke up weird one morning." He gave them all a wry half smile. "I'm a fan of walking down and threatening Portalocity just because it's Tuesday, but I don't think this is their fault this time."

Beat.

"Probably. We could yell at a gnome anyway?"

Or maybe someone has a slightly more productive suggestion?

Good news, everybody! Your teacher was back to her natural hair color, which had to be a good oh wait, the desks had been cleared out except for a long table holding a lot of gold handheld bells? Yeah, okay, sorry, class was still gonna be weird.

"Good morning, everyone!" Jess said cheerily. "This week in Music Appreciation, we're going to continue last week's practice with the bells by actually playing Carol of the Bells. Which can be a tough song, but you all did so amazing last week, and I know you can exceed that this week. I believe in you!"
