Thor had sent a handwavy notice the other day asking students to meet him outside the dorms (dressed appropriately for outdoor activities, of course) today instead of in their usual classroom.

"Good afternoon!" Thor greeted them. "I hope you have all had sufficient time to explore the maps of Fandom, as today we're going to put that knowledge to the test!"

"There is a Midgardian sport called Orienteering where participants are required to use their map-reading skills to complete a course, during which they will visit a number of checkpoints. We are going to do a simplified version of that today, to test your knowledge of Fandom geography and your skills at reading a map. For this task, you will be working with a partner: Alex and Shira, Cassidy and Snow, Alexandra and Loki, and Billy and Emma," he listed off, handing each pair an Orienteering map of the island, as well as a compass and a card with a list of five symbols. If the students looked at their maps, they'd see points marked off with corresponding symbols, although there was no other identifying information provided.

"An Orienteering map is often more detailed than a typical map in some ways, providing information about the height and size of geographical features, but unlike the maps we studied earlier, the names of individual locations are not labeled, although you will notice that there are several points marked off on each map. These are your checkpoints, and at each location there will be an NPC someone to verify you are visiting the point in the order determined by the card I gave you. The objective is to visit each point, and complete the course, as swiftly as possible.

If you're all ready? On your mark, get set, go!"

Herc was not at all hungover this morning, except for how that was a total lie. But it wasn't like he hadn't had reason. At least he was scruffy and Australian anyway so maybe nobody would notice?

At least they were talking about a subject that involved sunglasses? )

"Good morning, everyone!" Josh said, shaking his head to get rid of the vision of an Asian girl dressed in a wine barrel, tube socks, and a beret in the back of his class. On her it looked good, though. Weird. She disappeared after a few minutes.

"Today we'll watch portions of President Obama's State of the Union and play State of the Union Bingo while you finish up the speeches that are due today and you have undoubtedly forgotten about until right this moment. Then we'll hear your speeches and probably stop playing State of the Union Bingo by then. But it's pretty fun--" if you were a policy nerd like Josh anyway, "--and when you're old enough to go into bars without getting me arrested for abetting a minor, I'll teach you the drinking game part."

The unfortunate thing about taking a class taught by a woman who thought the Definitive Ranking of '00s Romantic Teen Movies was masterful journalism was that eventually she was going to want to teach in a more multimedia sort of way. AKA screening a film.

However, in this case she had real motivation for doing so, that being that she had an extremely mild sore throat.

Mindy coughed daintily into a tissue from behind her desk as the class arrived. "I have good news and bad news," she said, sounding slightly hoarse. "The good news is that we're watching an educational film today. The bad news is that I am sick, so any questions you might have will need to wait until after class so I don't have to raise my voice. Sorry about that. And sorry for how gross this documentary is. I tried to find something more pleasant, but when gonorrhea is concerned... eh, not so easy. So here we go."

She clicked the remote and the opening credits of a film came up on the screen. "Oh, no," Mindy said, covering her mouth with her hand partway. "This is, this is not the documentary I asked the library to get me. This is not... this is something else entirely."

But then she saw some familiar names scroll by in the opening credits and she decided to stop objecting. "Well, I guess we're watching this instead," she decided. Though she did muse, "You know, I'm not even sure this is out in theaters yet."

They were so lucky.

{ I'm very sorry for the lateness of this! Crazy work drama is crazy. }
