When the students arrived for the meeting today, they'd find a stack of warm pizzas and some bottles of soda waiting for them, along with Zoe.

"I know you're all probably wanting to get ready for the school trip, or for whatever you're going to be doing while we're on break, so we can keep this fairly brief," she said. "First, I wanted to congratulate you all on a successful Parents Weekend. I think most people had a good time with their families, and no one has sent me angry emails about pulling people out of the school, so I'd call that a solid success." Her standards might have been different from normal principals. "The only thing we need to do today is start talking about Homecoming. The dance and the carnival will be two weeks from now, so we need to come up with a theme for the event. Most likely something involving glitter, since that seems to be an ongoing thing." She wasn't judging anymore. Much. "Anyone have any ideas?"

Today class was being held on a grassy hill in the Danger Shop. At the top of the hill was a tall tree with what looked like a tree-house nestled in the topmost branches. Various pieces of scrap metal littered the base of the hill.

"So, gunpowder," Oz began. "Invented in China sometime before the 9th century, and over the next thousand odd years, used for fireworks, mining, and military purposes, to the point that firearms are ubiquitous in modern warfare."

"Unfortunately, in today's class you have no guns or gunpowder. Instead you have zombies." A low groaning sound could now be heard in the distance. "By the sounds of it a lot of them. Happy improvising."

Clint had directed the students to come to one of the classrooms today, where they'd find a bunch of books laid out about Italian culture, things to do in Tuscany, and translating phrases from English to Italian.

"It seemed a little weird to go somewhere when most of us are about to go somewhere for a whole week," Clint explained, "so I figured it would be a good idea to use this time to prepare for the fall break trip. The best trips are the ones you're at least somewhat prepared for, so find some things you might want to do while we're away, or figure out how to say a few things in Italian. Phrases that might get you out of trouble are always a good idea." Not that Clint knew that from experience or anything.

"A few weeks ago, we talked about lawyers," Batman said. "We're following up on that this week. I may have given you the impression that criminal lawyers are slimy, amoral, greedy sociopaths. And if I hadn't given that impression, then let me clear it up for you. Many are. But today, I'd like to introduce you to a better kind of criminal lawyer; the public defender."

Not like Daredevil. He's a vigilante, not a public defender. He's not even a Defender of any sort. But that's not Batman's company anyway. )

The classroom today was decorated for a party. No, not a Pinkie Pie style party. That would be too extreme and take too much time for non-pony people. Also, the Ice King didn't like any of you.

So.

"We're having a party," he informed the class, watching as Gunter waddled by with a balloon in his beak. "Because princesses like parties. And what better time to meet ladies than at one? Eh? Eh?"

Was the eyebrow waggle necessary? No. Was he doing it anyway? Yes.

"Now have fun!" That was a demand. Because that was how you had fun.

No, there would not be an explanation for the lack of class last week. But, really, did anyone really want to see the Ice King during that week? We thought not.

"The beginning of the universe," Kaidan began, "Is kind of a difficult subject. Looking at yourself, looking around yourself, it can be pretty hard to wrap your mind around the idea that maybe at one point in time, none of this existed. In fact, even scientists rebelled against this idea very hard for a very long time."

The holographic display behind him showed off a tiny glowing ball of light.
