The harem was gone, thankfully, as that might have ended badly this week. There was however, a round table with bottles filled with clear liquid and shot glasses in front of each student's seat.

"Good afternoon," Bond said. "The impact of drugs and alcohol on one's ability to bluff and to detect when your opponent is cannot be underestimated, especially as many poker games, or certain other situations you might need to hide your true intentions from another, also involve drinking."

"Now these bottles contain a liquid that simulates mild inebriation while you're in the Danger Shop, you'll be as fine when you leave as you were when you entered." This was a lie, they actually had distilled water in them. "However we won't be playing poker." Because that was another thing that might have ended badly this week.

"Instead we'll be playing something like a variation on Truth and Dare, without the dares." That would have been bad idea number three. "Find a partner and each take a shot, then ask each other questions in turn, if you suspect your partner has answered untruthfully call them on it. If they did lie, they take another shot, if they told the truth you do." Unsaid went the implication they could lie about lying. "The next round of questions starts."

"I told Portalocity to just surprise us and just pick an outdoor sporting event of some sort today," Jonothon admitted, standing on the Causeway a few extra steps back from the class, hair a little more tousled than usual and an uncharacteristic smirk on his face. "I think we could all use a break from this bloody island, at least for an hour or two. The fresh air will do us some good, hopefully, and there was no way in hell I was coming up with a proper class this week."

At least he admitted it.

"So, I want you all to be on your best behavior out there in the stands. I'm not in any mood to figure out how to bail you from an ancient Roman prison or something, this week."

Without any more ado, because honestly, getting off the island couldn't hurt any of them today, he waved his students through the portal, and into… a set of bleachers that were raised a fair distance off the ground. From their shaded seating, they could see that there were fourteen people flying out over a field. Half of them were dressed in robes of blue with silver arrows on them, the other half was wearing robes of black and yellow stripes with a wasp on the front, and all of them were riding around on… broomsticks.

Jono just sort of stood in the stands and stared for a minute before clearing his throat and taking a seat.

"I actually have no bloody clue what this is," he admitted. "But I suppose we might as well sit down, watch, and find out."

Enjoy a professional Quidditch match between the Appleby Arrows and the Wimbourne Wasps, students.

"Well, I've got good news, some more good news, some bad news, and then reasonably good news to follow that," Jessica announced. She was in her uniform today, both to show leadership and because that kind of thing just felt right during weeks like this. "The good news is that everyone made the team. Congratulations, you all did great. The other good news is that we have uniforms for everyone. The bad news is we still don't really have traditional sports to cheer, but the final good news is that we dohave things that are close!"

"I already talked to Cade about his general 'sports' club, which is apparently mostly about eating snacks. We can cheer that, assuming we bring some snacks. And then there's the roller derby club, and I haven't talked to the club head yet, but that seems like something that could use some encouragement. Rah rah, destroy that other person, that kind of thing," Jessica suggested. "And then there has been some talk of traveling, which will presumably get us ready for regionals."

"But we're open for suggestions on other things to cheer. If you have an idea, speak up, we're happy to entertain just about anything," Jessica said. And she did mean anything. Cheer-related. "But also, we should start practicing this week so we're in some condition to actually do any of that. So let's start."

Had Josh noticed the pollen thing this week? No, no he had not. He was far too busy reading All the Things on the government shutdown and exchanging pithy, profanity ladened texts with Sam and Donna. Besides, he always felt this amped up during a political debate...which was probably more than you needed to know about Josh. Oh well.

"Today we are going to learn new vocabulary," Josh said, "and not just for really amusing things to call Speaker Boehner, though if you give me one that makes me laugh, you'll get extra credit."

Josh was a giver that way.

Where Josh talks for 1200 words, I'm sorry. )

He leaned back against the desk. "Okay. Today I want you to give me your best guess on how long this shutdown will last--closest to being right will get extra credit--a really good, insulting name for Speaker Boehner without descending into Oompa Loompa jokes--and your own assessment on what the government shutting down really means. Go."
