"Today is our final class together," Thor said, looking somewhat disappointed. "I hope you've enjoyed the experience, and that I'll see some of you in the class I will be teaching in the fall.

"But let's not worry about that now- today, let's talk about the sandwich. Bread and meat had been paired together in many countries across Europe and the Middle East, but for the longest time it was simply known as just that- bread and meat. The Earl of Sandwich popularized the dish in the land of England, and from there others began to request 'the same as Sandwich' when ordering their meals. Eventually, bread and meat became known as 'the sandwich'. From there it eventually spread beyond Europe to the land of America, and these days is considered a common meal that can be consumed at any time of day. According to the law here in the United States, a sandwich must include two slices of bread, meaning that food such as burritos and tacos do not fall under the definition of a sandwich."

Thor gestured to the tables, which were set up with various sandwich-making ingredients, as well as a couple of tabletop grills.

"A sandwich can be eaten cold or hot, according to personal preference. Here I have provided for you the tools with which to make whatever sandwich you choose."

Yesterday's revelation that they were releasing another movie about his life had not put Ender in the best mood. It was a harsh reminder that what awaited him back home wasn't always much better than what met him here-- at least at Fandom he could expect a certain degree of anonymity.

While he tried to keep the annoyance and frustration and numerous other emotions out of his work today, it was obvious he was quieter and more distant than he usually was. He picked a topic that was as comfortably distant from his own experience as he could find, without becoming irrelevant to their story entirely.

"This is our last class," he said. "Sooner or later, you'll find yourself at your last class, period. Fandom is a school and so your stay here comes with an expiration date. Are you glad about that? Relieved? Unhappy? When you leave, what will you carry with you of this place? Mostly negative experiences? Mostly positive? Why?"

Then he fell silent.

"Regrettably, I can't bring us all the way up to the present, and I didn't quite want to close out the class with another war film, so instead we're going to watch a movie about President Nixon and the Watergate scandal, because I think it's important to remember that political figures are not infallible," Steve announced today. "I hope you enjoyed the film, as I hope you've enjoyed at least some of the other movies we've watched together, and I hope you learned something. You've been a great group, thank you." And with that, Steve pressed play and the movie started.

The Danger Shop was a hallway, all high contrast shadows as usual. At the end of it, there was a door, one that you might expect to lead into a detective's office in a '40s movie. (Spoiler: that was about exactly how the room beyond was like, too.) And The Spirit was standing outside said door.

He nodded at them again in greeting. "It's our last session, kiddos," he said. "And it's customary for you to have a final in the last session, so that's what we'll be doing." He jabbed a thumb back at the door behind him. "I want each of you to come through this door, one by one. This final's not a group effort. But you should all do well."

He gave them a brief smile, before turning to open the door, and gesture the first student inside.

Today, Bruce's class was taking place outside on the lawn. That alone should probably give students an idea of how strenuous the final was going to be.

Once everyone had arrived, Bruce clasped his hands together. "Well, it's our last class of the semester, but, uh, there honestly isn't much for me to test you on," he said a little sheepishly. "It would be pretty easy to make it seem as though you're meditating successfully when you're not, so I'm just not going to try it. Instead, I'd like it if you could just take the next hour to meditate quietly here on the lawn using the method of your choosing. Or leave, if you'd prefer." He didn't really mind if students wanted to just be done with classes already. "We'll skip the discussion afterwards - just focus on yourselves."

Bruce paused before issuing the customary permission to take a lap first, and added, "Oh, and many thanks to Ms. Adams for taking over last week," he added. "Now, if you need to run around first, please feel free. Otherwise, let's start."
