This week, Petra had asked her students to meet her on the actual beach instead of in the workshop, and to dress for it. When they arrived, they would find a table of moddable snacks and drinks, a beach volleyball net, and a large umbrella for shade. Their teacher stood before them in a swimsuit, a sarong tied around her waist because there were some things she didn't feel the need to put on display.

"Obviously I could give you a final," Petra said, "but honestly? It can't be all seriousness all the time, and it's the end of summer. I think we should enjoy it. Pretty soon I'll be leaving you guys, but I want you to know you've been great, and I'll see you all at homecoming before you know it. Now let's have fun!"

"Hey," Kaidan said. "I know it hasn't been easy these past couple of weeks. Grief never is. Talking about it... well, that can be worse." He glanced around the class. "Some of you haven't even really wanted to, and that's fine. I respect that. It can be hard to open up to another human being, let alone a whole classroom full of them."

He cleared his throat. "That's why this last class is gonna be a little different. None of you are going to have to talk to any human beings if you don't have to, though the floor is open right now if you need to."

After waiting a while and dealing with any people who spoke up, he continued. "Sometimes it can be a big help just to have a pet," he said. "Even if it's just for an hour. It works. They've run tests with this a few times over. So... I'd like to introduce you all to a couple of visitors from the local shelter."

It'd taken some negotiating with April (because he wasn't about to pay five million credits for a 'dog rental') but he'd gotten them anyway: a whole bunch of cats and dogs filtered into the room through the door, kept from dashing after any of the students by a small makeshift kinetic fence Kaidan had set up. There were small ones and big ones, fuzzy ones and nearly hairless ones, puppies and kittens and grown large animals that looked fully capable of hugging you.

He smiled at the class. "Please come forward if you want."

"Well, this is the seventh week," Anakin said, "which means this is your last trip through a portal for a while."

Some of the students might be a little grateful for that, a thought Ben had also had, judging from the bemused look on his face. "So today we'll go to Europe. Something nice and easy in Finland! You don't even have to eat something weird!"

Wasn't that nice of them, class? So nice!

Hannibal nodded to his students when they'd all arrived. "Today is our last class. It is generally traditional to have some sort of a final exam, but as you may have noted on the syllabus, you are not having one."

He smiled. "It is said that a good teacher learns as much from his students as they from him, so I think a more fitting gauge of my teaching ability is for the final exam to be mine." He waved at the food on the table. "Today's food, you may thank your classmates for. Those of you who showed me how to create your foods, I hope I have done well enough by them. Those of you who elected to write an essay," he sighed, "well, I return them to you, printed on edible paper.

"For today's discussion, I should like for you to each tell me one thing you have learned from this class, and one way in which it may inform your future eating."

"Also, I should like to invite you all to a post-semester dinner at the Arms Hotel one week from Saturday. There will be no tests or requirements; it's simply my way of saying thank you for allowing me to instruct you."
