William was having a terrible, horrible, no good very bad day. It had started with his alarm not going off, and then the only clean articles of clothing he could find were jeans and a t-shirt, his phone kept switching itself off unexpectedly, and the books...

Well. Every five minutes or so an entire shelf of books would just fall to the floor. So you'd find William out and about in the stacks today, rather futilely reshelving books.

Instead of the circle of desks today, Ghanima had a television at the front of the room and her usual pile of pillows and blankets available for students. A pot of hot tea was on her desk, with cups for anyone who wanted a drink, and apple tarts were piled on a plate for sharing.

"Today is Inauguration Day in America, when President Obama will be sworn in for his second term," Ghanima stated cheerfully. "It’s also, as chance would have it, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. So it’s a good time to get to know Myrlie Evers-Williams, a civil rights leader, former chairperson of the NAACP, and—as of today—the first woman to deliver a prayer at a presidential inauguration."

"Evers-Williams is the widow of civil rights leader Medgar Evers; together, the pair of them were instrumental in the civil rights movement during the ’50s and ’60s, organizing voter registration drives and demonstrations and working toward the desegregation of schools. Evers was shot to death by a white supremacist in 1963; though two all-white juries failed at the time to convict his killer, Evers-Williams worked for three decades to bring him to justice, and in 1994 Evers’ killer was arrested and convicted."

"After the death of her first husband, Evers-Williams continued to fight for the cause of civil rights, running for Congress and remaining active in the NAACP, of which she was elected chairperson in 1995."

"We're going to watch an interview that Ms. Evers-Williams did with MSNBC’s Al Sharpton about being chosen to deliver the invocation. Anyone whom would like to return to the classroom to watch the Inauguration later is more than welcome to do so."

[OOC: Class up. Apologies to the Mary Sue for stealing their post.]

A new term for classes, a new term for Apathy Club! It was actually kind of amazing, because this was easily the longest Jeremy had stuck with anything in his entire life.

Of course, he didn't exactly make it a grueling task for himself. Take today, for example: he was sitting behind the desk at the front of the class room, ready to give a lazy nod in greeting to anyone who happened to show up.

It was Apathy Club, people. The whole point was not to do things.

[ooc: Once again, people who did not sign up non-handwavily are welcome to show up!]

Topher wasn't sure how he'd gotten roped into being Alenko's TA without actually being his TA this time around, but he wasn't going to question it. He just waited the appropriate amount of minutes into class before assuming that Kaidan wasn't going to show, then hopped onto the desk at the front of the room, carefully disabled the woodworking equipment that was also on the desk (because he didn't want his fingers cut off, thank you for the tip, Ace) and then addressed the other students.

"So Alenko's not here," he shared, "obviously. But there's wood and whatever to play with, and if I just hook up my phone to the projector..." He paused for an improbably short period of time in order to do just that-- "Bam. Blueprints of stuff you can make. Or you could go a different route and just make a coaster, which is my plan."

He swung his arms forward, trying to think of whether there was anything else to include. "Oh, and in the last twenty minutes, meet with your partner and make a list of ways your battlebots can battle without destroying an arena. And then hand them in to me. I might grade them."

He would do no such thing.

"Have fun!"
