Industrial Arts, Tuesday, Period Two

Topher wasn't sure how he'd gotten roped into being Alenko's TA without actually being his TA this time around, but he wasn't going to question it. He just waited the appropriate amount of minutes into class before assuming that Kaidan wasn't going to show, then hopped onto the desk at the front of the room, carefully disabled the woodworking equipment that was also on the desk (because he didn't want his fingers cut off, thank you for the tip, Ace) and then addressed the other students.

"So Alenko's not here," he shared, "obviously. But there's wood and whatever to play with, and if I just hook up my phone to the projector..." He paused for an improbably short period of time in order to do just that-- "Bam. Blueprints of stuff you can make. Or you could go a different route and just make a coaster, which is my plan."

He swung his arms forward, trying to think of whether there was anything else to include. "Oh, and in the last twenty minutes, meet with your partner and make a list of ways your battlebots can battle without destroying an arena. And then hand them in to me. I might grade them."

He would do no such thing.

"Have fun!"

In case anyone was wondering whether Anakin had inherited the ability to make the 'bitch, please' face from his mother? He had. The lecture brought it out of him.

I couldn't actually find blueprints online that weren't confusing and/or illegible, but, you know, make stuff out of wood. Like a stool. Or a coaster.

Topher did indeed make a coaster, and spent a large chunk of time trying to engrave the first few letters of 'Jessica' on it (don't ask). He managed 'JES' before he ran out of room, took note of the giant mess on the floor, and decided to give up.

Cade couldn't read narrative, so he naturally leaned over from his--chair, maybe? Who worked with wood?--to see what Topher was working on. "Why are you writing Jes?" he asked.

Bay figured a picture frame was about her speed; it wasn't difficult, and she was more likely to use it than a coaster. She was very proud of herself when she used the hot glue gun to put the pieces together without getting any on her hands.

Bucky spent all class hammering and sawing and trying to make a spice rack, but he ended up with just a bunch of random scraps of wood nailed to his workbench.

He shrugged and decided to call it art and be done with it.

Partner Conversation!

If you don't have a partner, there's still time to get one!

With your partner, make a list of ways your battlebots can fight without destroying the arena. Because Kaidan's a stickler for that, it seems.

Despite being the 'teacher' today, Topher was available to discuss his project with his partner! As one might expect, he already had a list of thoughts. It was double-sided and the paper was college-ruled.

Bay pulled out a notebook and watched for Anakin. She wasn't sure what the point of making a battlebot was if you couldn't make it destructive, but whatever.

Goose still didn't have a partner. There was a part of him thar had hoped that he would be able to work on the project on his own but when he heard Mercy saying that she still needed a partner, he found himself saying "I haven't got a partner yet,"

Between them, the odds of it being either vaguely steampunk or gaining sentience and attempting to murder the school were high.

Rapunzel frowned. She was usually much better about doing assignments than this, but she didn't have a partner! She was such a bad student!

She looked around in case anyone else was in the same boat.
