Industrial Arts, Tuesday, Period Two

Topher wasn't sure how he'd gotten roped into being Alenko's TA without actually being his TA this time around, but he wasn't going to question it. He just waited the appropriate amount of minutes into class before assuming that Kaidan wasn't going to show, then hopped onto the desk at the front of the room, carefully disabled the woodworking equipment that was also on the desk (because he didn't want his fingers cut off, thank you for the tip, Ace) and then addressed the other students.

"So Alenko's not here," he shared, "obviously. But there's wood and whatever to play with, and if I just hook up my phone to the projector..." He paused for an improbably short period of time in order to do just that-- "Bam. Blueprints of stuff you can make. Or you could go a different route and just make a coaster, which is my plan."

He swung his arms forward, trying to think of whether there was anything else to include. "Oh, and in the last twenty minutes, meet with your partner and make a list of ways your battlebots can battle without destroying an arena. And then hand them in to me. I might grade them."

He would do no such thing.

"Have fun!"

With your partner, make a list of ways your battlebots can fight without destroying the arena. Because Kaidan's a stickler for that, it seems.

Despite being the 'teacher' today, Topher was available to discuss his project with his partner! As one might expect, he already had a list of thoughts. It was double-sided and the paper was college-ruled.

"You are my partner, you're not gonna grade anything, and why the hell would we want a bot that can't destroy the arena?" Good morning to you too, Topher.

"All good points," Topher said with a smirk and a nod."You know, I think you get an A for the day."

This was a symbolic gesture, as he not only had no access to Kaidan's gradebook, but he was also not sure whether grades occured on a day-to-day basis.

"And to think my vocational guidance counselor said the best I could aspire to was not getting chucked out of class more than once a week."

"Is that the grouchy Scottish lady?" Topher wondered. Electroclash so wasn't Scottish, Topher. "She's kind of mean. She made me say sorry to someone once."

"Eh? No, back in Perivale." Ace frowned. "There's a guidance counselor here? I thought the grouchy Scottish lady was the principal." Their combined knowledge of the faculty -- nationalities, staff positions, and which ones, in the case of Minerva Mcgonagall, didn't even work here anymore -- was breathtaking.

"I thought the principal was the crazy guy in the red suit..." Yeah. Definitely breathtaking. "Anyway, someone is definitely the guidance counselor and she sucks."

Bay pulled out a notebook and watched for Anakin. She wasn't sure what the point of making a battlebot was if you couldn't make it destructive, but whatever.

"Is it just me," asked Anakin as he sat down, frowning, "or does it seem pretty pointless to make a non-destructive battlebot?"

"This is exactly what I thought," Bay told him. "I mean, not to sound all 'yay violence,' but ... if we're building robots to fight for us, they should fight."

"It's in the name," Anakin added; he wasn't quite whining, but he was close. "And we wouldn't be designing them to destroy the arena on purpose, but sometimes it just happens."

It was entirely possible that his perspective on this was informed by several of his and Jacen's more . . . heated sparring sessions.

"Right," Bay said, and eyed him curiously. "How big exactly were you thinking about making this thing?"

"Not that big," Anakin promised. "It doesn't have to be, to be effective. With the right components, we can make it do a lot. Besides, I bet a small one could catch people off guard."

He rolled his eyes, but affectionately. "'Size matters not,' that's what my uncle would say. He loves quoting an old teacher of his."

"I am so tempted to ask if he said 'it ain't the meat, it's the motion' too, you don't even know," Bay said. "But ... completely inappropriate humor aside, I think you're right. We don't need to build a ~~meta~~ Transformer."

Mercy stood up. "Okay. Who is still without a partner besides me? I need one."

Goose still didn't have a partner. There was a part of him thar had hoped that he would be able to work on the project on his own but when he heard Mercy saying that she still needed a partner, he found himself saying "I haven't got a partner yet,"

The relief on Mercy's face was clear. "Thank you," she said. "You won't be sorry. I had to rebuild half a Porsche a couple of years back, so I'm good in that area."

Goose nodded, "I haven't had much experience with building things so this is kind of new for me," he said.

"I can probably handle most of the building part. Maybe you can help come up with more of the ideas part?" Mercy suggested.

"I'm sure I could think of a couple of ideas," Goose replied with a nod.

Tony looked around to check if William was around for discussing of their project.

Between them, the odds of it being either vaguely steampunk or gaining sentience and attempting to murder the school were high.

Or both. AIM HIGH, TONY. AIM HIGH.

"So, I've been brainstorming a little on my own," he admitted.

THEY CAN'T HELP IT.

"Oh?"

Rapunzel frowned. She was usually much better about doing assignments than this, but she didn't have a partner! She was such a bad student!

She looked around in case anyone else was in the same boat.
