This week had been a very confusing one for Minerva, but thankfully, she was good at rolling with the punches. She still couldn't understand why there was an office with her name on it - supposedly the office of the person in charge of the school! Sure, she'd fantasized about being the Headmistress at Hogwarts, but it wasn't as though that could happen now. Still, she'd attended to her duties as best she could, guided by the scrolls of notes on her desk, and the strange box that occasionally popped up messages telling her she had someplace to be. Today, she'd received such a message about the Student Council, and so she'd arrived with a warm lunch of sandwiches and soups in tow to share with everyone else.

"Well now, good afternoon!" she said brightly, standing up straight to appear as in charge as she could. "Thank you all for coming, and please take some of the food to warm yourselves. Winter is dreadfully upon us, it seems. I suppose we should eat first, and then discuss any upcoming important business, yes?" Thankfully, nothing important was coming up, or Minerva would be kicking herself once things were back to normal.

It was probably a little mean to get so much enjoyment out of watching your teachers go through a strange week, but Billy had definitely enjoyed the last few days, especially since this weirdness was lasting longer than expected. He knew karma would kick him in the butt eventually, and it seemed like "eventually" was already here, considering the unusually large amount of books needing to be reshelved he'd found upon arriving today. At least he'd be keeping himself busy?

[OCD-free because I'm heading out the door to work, whee!]

Today when students entered the classroom, they might notice how the usual pastries were completely absent. The seating set-up was the same, if only because the teacher had walked in to see the seats all shoved aside and had decided, to hell with it, he wasn't going to make the attempt to rearrange them. Oh. And the room smelled like burning brimstone. A little.

//Sick bloody joke,// the leather-wrapped teen who had taken a seat on top of the teacher's desk was grumbling. Well, 'grumbling.' Talking directly into the students' heads was more like it. And he wasn't even particularly good at it yet, considering the way he had to pause every few words in order to round up his focus all over again. //'A guide to fitting in... for those not meant to?' Really?//

Today's class might be a touch counter-productive.

//If yer not meant to... yer not meant to. World's got a pecking order to it. We... can't all be superheroes or rock stars or... prom kings. And a person'll just get burned if they set their sights... too high. Whose idea was it, having th'likes of me teach this? 'Those not meant to.' Plonkers.// Was young, skinny, burning Jonothon a little grumpy? Yes. Yes he was. //Th'way to fit in... is to find somebody who... happens to be as big a freak as you are. Anyone else... is probably just trying t'make themselves... feel better.//

He cast a look around the room, chestnut-coloured eyes glowing fire-hot for a moment.

//Tell me I'm wrong. Go on. Try.//

... That was probably about as close to an assignment as the class was going to get from Jonothon today, yes. So, go on. Tell him he's wrong.

"Hey, guys," Topher said, striding into the room with all the bounciness of a very egotistical kid who got to lecture his peers today. "I guess the teacher's not here, probably for the same reason the gym teacher wasn't here the other day, so... friendly neighborhood TA. Hey."

Now, don't worry, students-- if you thought that having a substitute who was also a student meant a blow-off day, have no fear, because Topher had brought with him a ton of research on his tablet about Kaidan's world and space and things he could talk about. Really, a ton. Weren't you lucky?

"I guess we're going to talk about wars, 'cause... I was watching Space Battles last night," he decided. "There have been a bunch of wars in Mr. Alenko's world and, like, a ton of articles on them. You should probably take notes."

That was doubtful.

War in spaaaaaaaaace! )

Magneto was back in the classroom, looking a bit more fatigued than usual. "My apologies for missing the last two weeks," he replied tersely. "Urgent matters required my absence. The details are not important." He stood up from his desk and began to walk around the room. "The American Revolution began in 1774 when citizens of this new country rejected the authority of Great Britain due to their governance overseas without representation. In 1789 the French revolution began, with the existing monarchy being overthrown by populace in order to replace the outdated feudal system with one based on principles of equality and citizenship." "In both cases, battle lines were drawn and live were lost on both sides," he continued. "But in both cases the former rulers of each country were rejected with a new form of government. And also in both cases, military action had to be taken." "Today those people who overthrew the government are often thought of as heroes. At the time they were thought of as radicals. They were dismissed, branded as traitors and often times they were even executed for their beliefs." Magneto returned to the front of the room where he leaned against the desk, giving his students a severe look. "Your assignment today is to tell me of a so-called radical in your own world or this one. Take a look at that person's actions and beliefs and explain why that particular radical may be more than just a nut with cause and could perhaps two hundred years from now be a hero. Begin."
