Gabrielle wouldn't ask where the giant box of vanilla wafers came from, when she found it sitting on the desk this morning. Not one to look a gift treat in the mouth (though you'd think she should, after the nutbread incident), she just proceeded to enjoy them while she worked on her scrolls.

They might be better with milk, but . . . ah, well.

For a pretty noticeable change of pace for the class, the students would file in today to find Shunsui leaning on the desk in the front of the room today rather than Ghanima, and, as a matter of fact, they would probably not see Ghanima there at all, considering she wasn't.

Shunsui dipped his head in greeting once everyone was settled, and then pushed up his hat so he could better talk to his students. "It fills me with great regret," he said, "to break the news to you that our lovely Ghani-chan will not be joining us today. You may have noticed that my feisty little teaching companion much better represents the war side of this class, and so, without her here today, we are going to have the opportunity to embrace the peace side a little more. We are, you might say, going to give peace a chance ♥.

"My companion also has a penchant for filling the boards with words, and with good reason. She is working for a text that exists, a document that has for centuries been considered a guide to the art of war. But while we spend so much time considering the words of Sun Tzu, why not spend a little time considering the works of all of you ♥?"

Yes, he was terribly proud of that one.

"Today, I would like us to compose a response to Sun Tzu-san; I would like us to compose our our guidebook, The Art of Peace ♥. What would you put into your Art of Peace? What are the truths and aphorisms and suggests you might make toward someone hoping to accomplish peace in their life? Let us just throw everything out there ♥. I shall like to have a volunteer who will jot everything down for us, and, next week, when our dear Ghani-chan returns to us, we can have her look it over and tell us what she thinks ♥."

"Any questions ♥?" he asked. "Or shall we begin ♥?"

"Hey, guys," Neal greeted the students as they entered the room. Today it was set up to resemble an actual classroom, with desks and chairs set up and a projector in the front of the room clicking through slides.

"So today we're going to talk about image," he said. "It's important to have one. A lot of the time, you'll need to blend in to get away with stuff, and other times it's a better strategy to deliberately stand out. Now, I was going to have you guys just try on clothes and stuff, but I decided to make it a short class today, so let's just discuss." He clicked through his slideshow, showing slides of moddable public figures in various stages of put-together-ness, many of them taken during scandals involving the figure in question. "Tell me who you guys think has a good image, who's handled it badly, and anything else that comes to mind."

A beat.

"Also," he said, gesturing to the enormous buckets of moddable colorful paint stashed by the door, "if anyone wants to grab one of those and head over to Madrox's room after this, you get an A."

Summer waited until her students settled into the classroom, before beginning her lecture.

"The giant squid is a deep-ocean dwelling creature, that can grow to the likes of forty-three feet," she explained. "They feed on deep-sea fish and other species of squid. Their only known predators are sperm whales."

"Giant squid are widespread, found near continental and island slopes from the North Atlantic Ocean, especially Newfoundland, Norway, the northern British Isles, Spain and the oceanic islands of the Azores and Madeira, to the South Atlantic around southern Africa, the North Pacific around Japan, and the southwestern Pacific around New Zealand and Australia. Quite a habitat," Summer commented.

"A study conducted in 2004 noted there were over 600 specimens of giant squid worldwide and that number continues to climb every year." Summer paused, turning on the projector, bringing up pictures of giant squid.

"Representations of the giant squid have been known from early legends of the Kraken through books such as Moby-Dick and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea on to novels such as Ian Fleming's Dr. No and Peter Benchley's Beast and modern animated television programs.

In particular, the image of a giant squid locked in battle with a sperm whale is a common one, although the squid is in fact the whale's prey, and not an equal combatant. I thought we could watch a few clips from a documentary film on giant squid to finish up today's lesson."
