For the last day of class, Cindy had gone to Wonka's and gotten a wide variety of assorted moddable candies to share with the students.

"First off, I want to say thank you all for being an amazing class and for the discussions we've had these past seven weeks," she said once the bell had rung. "And I hope to see you all in future classes I teach. Feel free to partake in the candy--no surprises this time or arbitrary punishments, I promise you."

It was the last day. Cindy was feeling generous--though, not so generous as to let them leave without a lecture.

Brief summary of several more problematic tales. )

"With these stories particularly, we begin to see why the Victorians--and certain animation studios--change the stories around, to make them more 'appropriate' for younger audiences. The question remains, however, whether or not this series of revisions is beneficial--or even necessary. Are we protecting the innocence of young children, or denying them the lessons that previous generations thought were important to teach? Are the older versions too dark, too bloody, too dangerous for children, or are the modern versions too sanitized? Or is the answer somewhere in the middle? Grab some candy and let's discuss."

[Slight trigger warning for the class. Cindy mentions several stories that touch on the darker side of sex, though each mention is only a link and a brief summary of the story. Feel free to ignore the links or even the cut section of the class if you'd prefer; the class discussion does not require having read any of that.]

With a week off from classes to look forward to, Gabrielle was planning a visit home. (What? It took a lot more than getting shot and poisoned and then besieged in a highly combustible barn in the middle of nowhere to discourage her from that prospect.)

In the meantime, though, she was flipping through a magazine full of pictures of rooms designed to store as many books as possible, and daydreaming about the possibilities. Just because she didn't actually have a permanent residence to speak of unless you counted how her possessions lived in Argo's saddlebags (and she didn't think Argo would be amenable to this kind of repurposing) didn't mean she couldn't imagine it. Maybe her hut at the Amazon village -- but how did you incorporate this kind of design into a building where the architectural theme was thatch and bamboo? (Yes, bamboo. In Greece. Hush.)

It was a fanciful sort of day behind the collections desk, really.

Today the danger shop had been transformed into a convention center. Specifically a convention center that at one point held a job fair but got invaded by zombies.

Yes. There are zombies in suits in the convention center still holding resumes. Hey, it's a tough job market. Even for zombies.

"Hey guys," Columbus said with a small bounce on the balls of his feet. "Today's our last class and I wanted to leave you with an alternative method for dealing with Zombies. It's not one I would choose personally but I have known one person who used this method effectively. It's camouflage."

And with a press of a button... A costume and makeup area appeared. Nope. No block letters today.

"Your goal today is to dress and then act like a zombie," Columbus said motioning to the make up station. "If you pass yourself off? Great. If not... well you've learned enough rules from me to know what to do. All right? Let's give it a shot."

[OCD is up!]

Summer had her students meet in the Danger Shop for their last class of the session. This time, it depicted the beaches and coast of California. It was as good a place as any to stage the surfing final.

"Today is our last class together and your final. I thought, for your exam, you could put together a short surf set and show me what you've learned here." A simple exam, for the most part.

"You've been a great class and I've enjoyed getting the chance to share my love of surfing with you."

[OCD up. Have at it.]
