doubleohblonde: (Bond is leaning in a suit)

Bond had informed his students that today's class would be held in the Danger Shop, where he waited outside to greet them.

"Improvisation," he began. "Improvisation, puzzle-solving, and lateral thinking are three skills that are vital to your continued survival in any given situation. Which is why we'll be working through a series of scenarios today focused on just that. Just remember, if you can't think of something, try everything."

With that he motioned for them to precede him into the Danger Shop. Which should really have been their first warning, given that once the last student entered the door swung shut behind them, leaving Bond on the other side.

"Yo, Rookies!" Oh, Reno was in a good mood today as he stepped into the classroom. The blinds were open to reveal the awesome view, and he was practically humming.

Well, it was a near thing.

"Today, we're gonna talk about a topic that's near an' dear to my heart, yo. We're gonna talk about rules." See, that wasn't so bad, was it? "And breakin' 'em."

Ah.

"The thing about honin' your attitude, ladies an' otherwise, is that you gotta figure out just when the rules you're lookin' at are friggin' ridiculous, yo. Do this? Don't do that? Okay, that's cool. But what harm is there in chewin' bubblegum in the classroom? An' why the hell should anyone care if you're sittin' around in the mall for a few hours doin' nothin', just so long as you ain't hurtin' nobody? An' why you gotta have short, naturally-colored hair to get a job out there? Who the hell are those tattoos an' piercings even hurtin', anyhow?"

Yeah, Reno was totally the type to loiter, with his long hair and pierced ears and tattooed face. But he usually did so while well-armed, and nobody generally bothered him, as a result.

"Today, we're gonna talk about different rules you've seen around that just don't make no friggin' sense to you, and you're gonna tell me how you think doin' those things ain't hurtin' nobody, and just how you plan on goin' about breakin' it. An' if anybody sees a reason why the rule you wanna break is valid, they're gonna go right ahead and tell you why, yo. This class is about separatin' the rules from the guidelines, but if someone's gonna legitimately get hurt over this shit, I ain't havin' none of that, yo."

Reno was a real sweetheart when he wanted to be. So there.

Since it often rained in the jungle, Jane had decided that, today, their clearing classroom in the Danger Shop should also be afflicted with the downpour that plagued the island lately due to their new move. She'd put up great big tarps, so that the rain pounded over them as they worked by torchlight, and it made her terribly miss being out there for real.

"As you can see," she said to the class with a laugh, "our helmets and boots will come in handy today, but you'll also be quite pleasantly surprised to find out, once we get out in the jungle today, that the cover of trees and the different levels of the jungle canopy is so thick that you'll barely feel a trickle of rain inside! Yet another fascinating feature about the African jungles! So far, we've talked about our three basic essentials and we've talked about some of the dangers of the jungle. Today, we're going to talk about shelter.

And so it was that Jane took to the blackboards. There would be many, many diagrams as she went over the basic steps to building a shelter.

It wasn't all going to be lecture, though. Jane had two conveniently located trees and all of her supplies so that she could actually give a more visual direction of how to construct your shelter, or at least a variation on one.

"And, ta-da, that's all there is to it, ladies and gentleman! So let's all grab these packs here, which will have everything we need, grab our hats, and we'll be off into the jungle. We'll trek for a bit; I much prefer you to at least trek in pairs, and, when you notice it's about time to start getting ready to make our shelter, you'll have the rest of class to put together one that will keep you dry, protected, and safe!"

A beat.

"Well, relatively speaking, of course. Any questions before we begin?"

The city they were surrounded by reminded Anakin a bit of Coruscant (if with fewer flying speeders), and while the name of the class was Try Not to Die (with two exclamation points, sigh), he didn't really want to lose a student or three in the streets of Tokyo.

Which was why he'd given them all bright yellow rain slickers with tracking beacons sewed into the collars, just in case. He'd be able to find them regardless--the Force was useful this way--but this would give him a bit of a head start. That they looked like a group of yellow Skittles was immaterial.

"Welcome back," he said from under the hood of his (not yellow, thank you very much) Jedi robe. "Today your tasks have been set up throughout futuristic Japan. As you might be able to guess from the not-exactly-thrilled-to-see-you expressions on the faces of the people around us, this is a much more dangerous scenario than our last few weeks. Make smart decisions today, don't take off your rain coats, and try not to die."

With that useful bit of information imparted, he stepped away from the clue box.

Today, Rinoa was browsing the library and looking for new titles that might catch her eye. She ended up picking up one of the Landocean books, because she'd heard good things about the author. And she was, of course, ready and willing to help anyone who came into the library.
