Try Not to Die!! [Tuesday, May 24, 3rd period]

The city they were surrounded by reminded Anakin a bit of Coruscant (if with fewer flying speeders), and while the name of the class was Try Not to Die (with two exclamation points, sigh), he didn't really want to lose a student or three in the streets of Tokyo.

Which was why he'd given them all bright yellow rain slickers with tracking beacons sewed into the collars, just in case. He'd be able to find them regardless--the Force was useful this way--but this would give him a bit of a head start. That they looked like a group of yellow Skittles was immaterial.

"Welcome back," he said from under the hood of his (not yellow, thank you very much) Jedi robe. "Today your tasks have been set up throughout futuristic Japan. As you might be able to guess from the not-exactly-thrilled-to-see-you expressions on the faces of the people around us, this is a much more dangerous scenario than our last few weeks. Make smart decisions today, don't take off your rain coats, and try not to die."

With that useful bit of information imparted, he stepped away from the clue box.

It was probably the fact that Warren looked distinctly uncomfortable in his yellow Skittle-suit that made it difficult for him to get business cards from his customers at the host club. Really, it wasn't that he was bad at striking up polite, formal conversation. He was a Worthington, after all. But he had a lot of wing folded up under that raincoat, and he'd gotten used to being able to stretch it out in his time on the island.

Add to that the fact that he kept jerking away from the more friendly patrons when they went to clap him on the back, and his time spent making nice with the locals was spent doing equal parts apologizing, too.

Oh please. If there was something - other than violence - that Surreal was good at, it was getting men to give her what she wanted.

She called in a few pots of cosmetics and quickly did her face up. She folded up the ugly yellow-cloak-thing and placed it in a large inner pocket of her own cloak, since there was no way she could attract a decent customer while wearing it. Some kohl around her eyes, fluffing her hair and letting her ears peek through, and she was ready to make a few new friends.

It was not long at all before Surreal had the five cards and was headed to the door, ready to get her next clue.

Sam was already dreading this task. He wasn't an outgoing person by nature so having to be extroverted and charming in order to get a business card seemed to spell his doom.

And he wasn't wrong. He managed to serve the drinks fine but he kept letting his mouth get away from him by either making smart comments or just offering a few words. By the time he'd managed to get his five business cards, most everyone else was gone.

Great.

There were a great many reasons that this particular exercise had been doomed from the start.

It wasn't entirely clear what exactly triggered the fight, but Cara definitely threw the first punch...and the second punch...and the...well, you got the idea. On the bright side, no one had gotten particularly damaged...yet.

Honestly? It was likely Simon got through the roadblock as fast as he did solely because of his eyes. He fumbled and he was very very akward, but apparently his customers found it endearing and liked the look of him, so he got his business cards quick and could continue on his way.

It wasn't any kind of clairvoyant hint about bad things happening in Japan in her future that made Gabrielle so uneasy in their surroundings; it was just so . . . artificial, somehow, all of it. So much steel and concrete and gods only knew what else, and all of it incredibly claustrophobic besides.

And yet the club wasn't all that different from most of the rowdier taverns she'd ever been in back home. More sophisticated trappings, maybe, and it didn't have that distinct unwashed-warlord reek, but if she looked at it the right way it was pretty familiar.

You'd think her persuasive skills would have served her well in this situation, except for one thing: Gabrielle was approaching each encounter as if dealing with the sort of bandits and soldiers she might find in those taverns back home. All told, after a couple of failed attempts and a couple more near-disasters averted only by massive amounts of fast-talking and verbal backpedaling, it ended up taking her quite a while to collect those business cards.

It was bad enough she had to wear a bright yellow slicker that went terribly with her hair, but Jocelyn had to be polite to a bunch of drunk mundies too?

Not going to happen. But apparently - and surprisingly - the combination of her hair and her bitchy attitude charmed a specific subsection of the clients who couldn't give her business cards fast enough.

This was definitely a new experience. It wasn't that Annie wasn't outgoing or anything- she was a serious overachiever who'd had to put herself out there if she wanted to get anything- she just wasn't used to it working very often. Because of this, she started out a little awkward, but the fact was, she was cute and friendly and smiled a lot, and once she figured out she didn't have to try that hard, it went much easier, and she got her five cards.

Once again, Toby was fully prepared to make use of telepathy to achieve his goal. It seemed like the sort of thing he'd done hundreds of times before: use his gift to steer the conversation in his favour.

However, he'd never looked inside the mind of someone with an extensive amount of cybernetic implants before. What he found was... not pretty. So he lost a good amount of time to stumbling out into a back alleyway and revisiting breakfast.

Kate was not charming hostess material. Her methods of getting things out of people tended more to the threats and blackmail than they did the flattery and sweet-talking.

Maybe it was best not to ask how she collected her five business cards so fast.

Squall... tried. He really did. And that's probably why he did so poorly.

The part of the clientele that would normally go for the dark, broody type were put off by him trying to smile at them. And the smiles weren't pleasant or sincere enough to charm anyone who liked being smiled at.

After he had been there for far, FAR too long and collected only two cards, he growled in frustration, punched a table into splinters, and demanded that the startled woman sitting there give him a business card.

He didn't get hers, but as he owner escorted him out of the club, several other patrons discreetly slipped up to him and handed him their cards.

Goose was incredibly awkward about this task, he was trying to smile and be pleasant but they weren't traits he was overly used to and it took longer than what he would have liked to complete the task.

This challenge definitely held Lindsay back. She wasn't the most social or outgoing person ever. That made collecting business cards more difficult than she had planned.

Richie could be charming. The yellow raincoat made it more difficult, but he still managed to smile his way through his customers and grab the business cards.

Angelica struggled a little due to her shyness, but her red hair attracted attention, so it didn't take her too long to get five business cards.

Warren was still grinning a bit after being allowed to drive like a maniac in a pretty car, and that grin was helped along by the fact that there were far fewer people here than there had been the last two classes by the time he returned.

"I'm not last!"

This was awesome!

Even if he still looked like a big rubber duck!
