When the students filed into the classroom today, they'd noticed a few well organized piles of scuba gear. Goggles, snorkels, flippers, swim caps, wetsuits and nose plugs were all there and all waiting to be used.

"Good morning," Fraser said, smiling at them all. "Today, if you couldn't tell, we're going to be snorkeling. Snorkeling is the practice of swimming on or through a body of water while equipped with a diving mask, a shaped tube called a snorkel, and usually flippers. In simpler terms, it means using a snorkel -- "

He picked up a snorkel and showed it off. " -- to swim through water while not worrying about surfacing to breathe. It makes sightseeing things under the surface quite a lot easier. People can snorkel in shallow water and in deep water but that requires oxygen tanks and we're not going to go that advanced today. Today, we're going to be doing some very basic surface snorkeling. You'll need to don a wet suit, find a pair of goggles and a snorkel that fit you and a pair of flippers to make swimming easier. You're welcome to also use a swim cap and nose plugs if you feel the need."

Before they could all get geared up, Fraser demonstrated the proper way to equip the goggles, snorkel and flippers since those were the important pieces of equipment today. "We're going to be snorkeling in Dean's Blue Hole which is in the Bahamas. It's a gorgeous place so please take your time and enjoy yourselves. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to come and find me."

With that, he set the class loose on the gear and the simulation.

Gabrielle's propensity for seasickness wasn't normally an issue at work; you wouldn't think it would be. Still, the all-too-familiar nausea hit her as soon as she'd finished her morning tasks around the library and gone to settle behind the desk with her scrolls, and she ended up clutching at the edge of the desk and looking as green as half her wardrobe for a few minutes.

Once she'd gotten a hold of herself enough to remember the pressure-point techniques that helped quell the queasiness, she took a look around and got a good guess at the likely cause of the whole bizarre thing: off to one side of the desk, bobbing lightly on the floor as if they were adrift on the waves, were a dozen or more books. A few minutes of lightheaded skimming revealed the common theme at play -- every one of those books had to do with someone getting stranded at sea and getting swallowed by a whale.

"Oh, I see," Gabrielle told the books weakly, swaying a bit on her legs as she got up to round them all up and take them back to the shelves. "Ha. You think you're funny, do you? Well, I've got news for you. It's not very -- urgh -- hilarious at all . . ."

She just hoped those books didn't decide to come drifting back repeatedly during the day, or it was going to be a miserable shift. Thank the gods there wasn't any sort of questionable food within reach, because that pressure-point technique had the unfortunate side effect of killing her taste buds, and she did not need a repeat of the disgusting raw-squid incident.

"Okay, since certain people at laptops are sick and whiny, we’re gonna watch a movie,” Deadpool informed the class once they all managed to show up. “And since I’m a glutton for punishment or something, the movie is gonna be something near and dear to my heart. Y-Men: Annoying Woodland Creature Beginnings."

Oh god, it buuuurned.

Ghanima gave the class the look that said, 'just go with it.' It was easier than trying to translate anything from Deadpool-ese today. "What we want you to do," she said smoothly, "is to come get your bags of popcorn and some soda. Every time the movie breaks one of the rules we've discussed in class, take a drink."

"Don't worry, we have refills."

"And please, feel free to throw things at the screen and heckle the crap out of it," Deadpool added cheerfully.

"So, okay, you can boil pasta and pan-fry something to go with it," Steve said. "You can probably keep yourself alive. Now we're going to move on to a very versatile cooking method: roasting. There are two different ways this works--one with lower temperatures and one with higher ones--but both involve sticking something in the oven, so. Low-temperature, long time period roasting is great because you don't have to fiddle with dinner, you just stick it in the oven and forget about it for a while, because that's what roasting is, cooking something other than bread in the oven. A baked potato? Actually roasted. So are oven fries. You can also roast carrots or asparagus, along with a number of other vegetables. And, of course, we can't forget about the meats. Roasting is great for larger cuts of meat, such as a whole chicken or a pot roast."

Steve paused to hand out a packet including all of these recipes for them to try later if they were brave and hungry, then said, "Now, since roasting takes a long time and this class is only an hour long, we don't really have time to make pot roast or even a baked potato, since they cook for an hour and, well. Class already started. So instead we're going to make what time allows for: roast carrots. They're delicious, make an excellent and versatile side dish, and they're good for you. What's not to like?" Steve walked them through a step-by-step demonstration of how to make roast carrots. "Now, break up into pairs and get to work."

"You may review your notes today," Kerrigan said, from her position at the front of the classroom. "After we delve into the actual science for a minute or two."

She turned on the projector, displaying a 'map' of the human brain. "This is the activity in an average human mind at rest," she said. Click. "This is a psionic's mind at rest." An area in the back of the brain had lit up a little brighter than on the first picture. "This is a psionic's mind when actively trying to listen in." The area at the back had lit up further, spreading forward into the frontal lobe. "And this," she continued, "is a telekinetic at work." The parietal lobe at the back was a frantic place of activity now, spreading forward into the frontal lobe in quick, precise spikes.

She glanced at the class. "That's the human brain," she said, "This is the protoss mind at rest."

Not only was the image she showed next shaped somewhat different from the human brains she had shown before, but the back of the brain seemed to be about as active as that of the last human image. It even spread towards the middle, to the temporal lobe. "The protoss practically seem to subsist on psionic power," she said. "Their minds are constantly working with it, trying to get it under control." She elaborated on the various lobes of the brain for a few more minutes.

Then she glanced over the class. "I'm not asking any of you to get your brain scanned, though the option is there," please, please take the option, "But merely to consider what this means. It might lead you to develop new strategies to control and focus your power. You can review these simulations as you wish."

"Hey," Ben said with a small smile. "We're going to play with video cameras this week. Take one of these flip cameras, mess around with the settings and then film something fun during the week. Next time we meet up, barring invasions or something, we'll show off what we did. Sound good?"

His conversations with Raven and Katniss on Tuesday and his worry over Leia factored heavily into the topic Anakin chose for today. "In the New Testament, one of the religious texts of this planet, love is described as patient and kind, beyond such things as holding grudges," Anakin began.

"In my version of the Jedi Order, we were taught that in order to maintain the proper distance necessary to negotiate impartially across our galaxy, we were to strive for serenity, not passion. To be Jedi, we should not know anger, or hatred, or love. When we were very small children, we were raised in the Temple so that family loyalty or planetary allegiance would not get in the way of following the will of the Force."

He crossed his arms over his chest, the wedding ring on his left hand gleaming under the light, and glanced around the room. "Would you have been able to hold to their rules? Can you stop someone from acting out their feelings? What do you think the Masters of my Order were trying to prevent?"
