doubleohblonde: (Bond is smugly relaxed)

Bond did not have any small children with him, as the island had apparently decided to spare him this time around.

"Given the circumstances, I feel it might be best for all concerned if today's class was somewhat less involved than usual," he said, nodding at the brightly colouredbumper cars set up in the middle of the Danger Shop. "The safeties are one, and there are one- and two-seater models depending for you to choose from depending on the ages and responsibility levels of your guests."

Since there were young children involved, Bond hadn't even planned any surprises into the simulation.

Alaric, thankfully, had not any kids show up for the weekend. Valentine's Day was tough enough for him, he didn't need to babysit some AU kid that happened to be his and Isobel's if she hadn't decided being a vampire would be fun. No, instead he drank in his apartment and watched some Julia Roberts movies.

What? It was the only thing on.

Sure it was Alaric. Sure it was )

"Know what, kids?" Kūkaku asked once everyone was in the lab and ready to go that morning. "I was feelin' pretty lazy this morning and was just gonna rope you guys with a film to take notes on, but I decided, instead of makin' you sit through something and then talk about the chemistry ya might have seen in it, we're gonna make our ownmovie special effects with chemistry.

"Ya know I'm in the fireworks business; we like to make for a really good show, and there's a lot of bells and whistles you can pull to get simple effects usin' chemistry. Of course, ya can make some more exciting ones, too, if ya know how, but you know the rules: nothin' that's gonna blow the roof off this place or get your beloved teacher in trouble, yeah?

"You'll find some various instructions on how to make smoke and fog, coloured fire which is a personal favourite, fake blood that doesn't look fake, and glow in the dark effects which can involve slime, so how can you go wrong? Among others. If you can think of your own movie or stage effect that puts chemistry to use, more power to you and, sure, extra points for creativity.

"So pair up and let's see what you can come up with. Doesn't that beat all hell out of just sittin' on your asses watching someone else do it?"

Guess who has two thumbs and spent all weekend in a drunken stupor thinking he was having an affair with the Queen of France?

THIS GUY!

So Shunsui had no sympathy for your plight of the weekend and, besides, even if he had known about it, if you had a child, it meant you probably had sex, so good job!

"Welcome back, my little ducklings ♥!" Shunsui greeted them over his cocoa. "Hopefully, you've had a chance to at the very least look over the play given to you last week so that we can discuss it a bit more directly.

"You got the introduction to it last week, so I'll skip all that and get to the questions. How did you like it, as a literary piece or otherwise? What did you feel Aristophanes was trying to say in this comedic venture, if anything? Do you feel that it's a good example for pacifists to turn to, or do you suppose pacifists who cite it are just trying too hard to see what they'd like to see in this work of fiction? It's also considered a feminist tract; do you see that, too? Do you approve of the title character's strategy in getting the soldiers to peace, or does it tread on other moral questions that should be in consideration as well? Is peace something that should be achieved by any means necessary, or is war sometimes better than peace? Are there any other questions I've forgetting? Is it really just a piece of comedic junk just for giggles and not at all worthy of all this discussion in the first place?

"Let's begin, shall we?"

The Journalism room was, as promised, open, and free from any signs of slime, green or otherwise. The stack of AP Style Handbooks by the door, in case anyone wanted one, was also sutra-free. Cally checked.

What was present besides the editors was a table full of pink and red frosted pastries and confectioneries. Day after Valentines discount for the win!

"Clearly this weekend was no sane time to try putting together a newspaper," Cally said once the staff had assembled. "If your articles from last week are already begun or even already completed, that's great; we're ahead for this Saturday's edition. If not..." Cally gave them a wry little smile. "Feel free to examine the island's method of celebrating local holidays; we certainly will be."

Rinoa was doing research, today, on timelines, time loops, and destiny. How you could tell if the future was locked, or only a possibility.

This would be when she wasn't dabbing at her eyes discreetly with a tissue. As you do.

They were back in the computer lab today. "So, several classes ago, we discussed the internet as a venue for communication, with email and instant messaging clients. However, the internet is so much more than that as well. Whether you want to find out who that familiar looking actor is in the TV show you're watching, buy clothing, check the scores to the sport's game, find out what the Defenestration of Prague was, or watch a music video, these are all things you can do on the internet."

Her monitor was hooked up to the projector, so she brought her mouse over and clicked on the Firefox icon on the desktop. "Web browsers let users navigate from one page to the next on the web via links. These links are the specific addresses of the pages you would like to access; they can be as simple as typing in google.com or can be incredibly complex, spanning many numbers, letters, and characters."

She continued in this vein for awhile, explaining search engines, wikis, and blogs, as well as giving historical information on the founding of the internet. That segued into a discussion of safety online, both to protect their machines from viruses, trojans, and spyware and to keep themselves and their information safe and secure.

"It doesn't matter what your email tells you," she said, grinning a little. "There are no Nigerian princes who want to give you a million dollars. The biggest problem with the internet is anonimity; the person you're talking to might be the nineteen year old girl from Cleveland like she's claiming, but she could just as easily be a forty-four year old man from Denver. Be very careful about what kind of information you give to others and if you come across anything that makes you uncomfortable, tell someone, okay? Since the inception of the internet as a commercial tool, an entire new kind of crime called cybercrime has flourished. Be safe, be careful, be smart, okay?"
