Chemistry; Tuesday, Period One [ 02/15 ].

"Know what, kids?" Kūkaku asked once everyone was in the lab and ready to go that morning. "I was feelin' pretty lazy this morning and was just gonna rope you guys with a film to take notes on, but I decided, instead of makin' you sit through something and then talk about the chemistry ya might have seen in it, we're gonna make our ownmovie special effects with chemistry.

"Ya know I'm in the fireworks business; we like to make for a really good show, and there's a lot of bells and whistles you can pull to get simple effects usin' chemistry. Of course, ya can make some more exciting ones, too, if ya know how, but you know the rules: nothin' that's gonna blow the roof off this place or get your beloved teacher in trouble, yeah?

"You'll find some various instructions on how to make smoke and fog, coloured fire which is a personal favourite, fake blood that doesn't look fake, and glow in the dark effects which can involve slime, so how can you go wrong? Among others. If you can think of your own movie or stage effect that puts chemistry to use, more power to you and, sure, extra points for creativity.

"So pair up and let's see what you can come up with. Doesn't that beat all hell out of just sittin' on your asses watching someone else do it?"

[[ the ocd, it is coming up! ]]

Cassidy was so looking at creating smoke and fog, because it looked like fun.

William was going to go right for the luminescence experiment, like the nerd he was.

"Need any help?" Scully offered, seeing what he was starting to work on.

Strictly speaking, William probably didn't need help, no. But why work alone when a friend was offering to work alongside you?

"If you're offering, I'd be glad to accept," he told her with a smile.

"Do we want to make a double or triple recipe? And did you have any little visitors to deal with this last weekend?" Scully asked, reaching for the zinc sulfide.

"Do we have enough ingredients for a triple?" William checked. A triple would mean plenty to work into various experiments outside of class, after all. His expression faltered a bit at the second question. "And no, no visitors. Yourself?"

"I believe so," Scully said, checking the borax. She sighed. "Two. It was... very strange."

Out beyond the edge of strange and bizarre and into X-File territory, really.

"Is children something you've given much thought to?" William blurted, before realizing he'd perhaps overstepped his bounds and blushed furiously. "I'm sorry- don't feel you have to answer that, if it's too personal."

Scully gave him a curious look, then realized his Victorian-ness might be at work here, and said, "No, it's not too personal." She grimaced. "I've thought of it. Off and on. Just-- not while I'm a teenager. After school. After I have my career established." She smiled a little. "No matter how cute they were."

Even with her worries and wondering if kids would be possible, or impossible, if she had the wish spell broken-- she wasn't changing her mind about that.

William nodded thoughtfully. The idea of a woman putting career before family would have been considered, at best, unusual in his time, but he was finding that that wasn't so much the case anymore. "It's the sort of thing one usually has- a bit more preparation time for, at the very least," he observed with a wry smile.

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2011-02-16 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Definitely," Scully said, heartfelt. And it had hurt, too, because of Emily. "Also, it was strange since I haven't even been on a date with Bruce. And William-- my little boy, William," she clarified, smiling suddenly. "Was too little to explain how I married his father." She gave him a slightly envious look, then was thoughtful. "If it's not too personal a question for you, do you want a family?"

[identity profile] faithandscience.livejournal.com 2011-02-16 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
"I, I think so?" William said slowly. "The thought has crossed my mind, at any rate, and I'd like to think I'd... do right by them." If there was a slight bitter twist to his expression at the end of that statement, well. For good reason.

[identity profile] showmetheproof.livejournal.com 2011-02-16 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
"I think you would," Scully said, her voice certain, wondering what had made him sound like that. But William was a nice, steady person, and she couldn't imagine him not doing his most for any family he had. "It's far in the future, though. One way or another." Whether she took the long way around, or finally found a cure. And for William, it would have to be after graduation, when he was in his home time.

Oh, as if Jonothon could pass up the opportunity to mix up some realistic-looking fake blood. He had no idea what in the world he would do with it, mind, but did that really matter? Gore was actually rather fun, so long as nobody actually had to get hurt for it.

Huh. Blue food colouring as well as red. Who would have thought?

Well, yes. Jono had totally figured out just how to manipulate his powers under those bandages of his over the past little while so that people weren't left staring at a half a face with a lot of loose bandages hanging from it.

He had a fairly damned attractive lower jaw, for a guy who didn't have one at all.
