Advanced Driver's Ed, Monday Period Two

Bond did not have any small children with him, as the island had apparently decided to spare him this time around.

"Given the circumstances, I feel it might be best for all concerned if today's class was somewhat less involved than usual," he said, nodding at the brightly colouredbumper cars set up in the middle of the Danger Shop. "The safeties are one, and there are one- and two-seater models depending for you to choose from depending on the ages and responsibility levels of your guests."

Since there were young children involved, Bond hadn't even planned any surprises into the simulation.

Rusty, Junior, had finally managed to track Hank down. It was a mystery! And he had solved it! Never mind that it had taken him about a day and a half longer than all the rest of the kids.

Now, he was watching Hank's every move and scribbling notes in his Official Rusty Venture Fan Club Boy Adventurer's Mystery Notebook. The notebook was twenty-five years old and would have fetched a pretty penny on eBay in mint condition, but that wasn't the point.

Hank just sort of made shooing motions at the kid. "Quit it! I said, quit it!!!"

"I could reprogram this to be more fun," James muttered.

Considering James had been raised on the Carrier, Jenny really did not want to find out his definition of 'more fun.' "No."

"But it would only take a--"

"No."

"Aunt Angie would let me!"

"I'm not Aunt Angie."

Great, Jenny, now you'd made him sulk.

Bod was actually kind of glad he'd brought Dorian to this class with him because the boy hopped into the bumper car immediately and started ramming his dad's car before Bod had even fully gotten himself strapped in.

He was going to lose this game.

Hank and Rusty were perfectly evenly matched.

In fact, it was eerie how much their bumper cars mirrored each other as they drove around the track and crashed into each other over and over again. "YOU'RE GOIN' DOWN, PUNK!!!" they both shouted at the exact same moment.

John had been expecting a little more from this class that his dad had talked about. He wasn't sure what good bright toys would be for anything - even if some of the kids seemed like they were having fun.

He stood a little apart from the class where he could watch everything carefully and make sure no one could sneak up on him or Kyle.

John looked over at the grown up carefully. Kyle had said he was someone okay, but he couldn't help being suspicious.

"Yeah. He's going to be my dad."

That earned a near-smile from the boy. He approved of people liking Kyle. "That's what Mom says too," he admitted.

While taking a break fro the cars, Kyle came over when he saw Mr. Bond and John talking. "Met Mr. Bond?"

John nodded. "He's cooler than I thought with the -" he gestured at the toy cars.

"Some of the others are new at cars. He probably figured with the kids around that it was safer. I've been his teaching assistant since I got here. He knows a lot."

"What's a teaching assistant?" he asked, scuffing his foot along the ground.

Kyle was present, accounted for and driving the hell out of the bumper cars.
