When the students arrived to class today, they would find the classroom surprisingly Ziva-less. The television and DVD player were set up as usual, and there was a note on the board for them.

In honor of Election Day (which was Tuesday, for those of you who are not American), this week's movie will be Mr. Jones Goes to Virginia. Yes, it is in black and white. You will all survive, I am certain. For your assignment, tell me: would you ever run for a public office? Why or why not?

Ziva certainly wouldn't, unless there was an Office of Stabbing People. She'd be able to keep all of her campaign promises then.

To the Danger Shop, into the wilderness, for the class today. Angua would be waiting for the students in a clearing in a forest thick with brush. "How did the tracking go?" she asked with a faint smile. "Did you figure out who had you? Did anyone figure out you had them? We'll take some time to swap stories if you have them, but we'll focus on today's class first. The next few weeks, we're going to go over some basic wilderness tracking and survival techniques and working together to adapt them to urban environments. I've emphasized that staying hidden is important, so we're going to start with shelters, namely debris huts."

Gimme Shelter... )

"All right," Angua smiled. "Let's get started. You can tell me about your tracking during the week while we work, and then halfway through the class, we'll head into the 'city' and see what we can come up with there."

After making sure the coffee was brewing, William settled in to the desk with his own tea and began reading about the history of Dewey Decimal System. Apparently it had been a rather recent innovation in his own time, which explained why he'd only heard of it since coming here.

"In one of the religious texts of this planet, love is described as patient and kind, beyond such things as holding grudges," Anakin said, looking down at his notes, then snorted and made the universal symbol for "blah, blah, blah" with his hand.

He might be a soft touch on the subject, but he was hoping no one in the room would call him on it. Given that his daughter was in school, and his granddaughter taught, that was asking a little bit too much from his class.

"In my version of the Jedi Order, we were taught that in order to maintain the proper distance necessary to negotiate impartially across our galaxy, we were to strive for serenity, not passion. To be Jedi, we should not know anger, or hatred, or love. When we were very small children, we were raised in the Temple so that family loyalty or planetary allegiance would not get in the way of following the will of the Force."

He crossed his arms over his chest, the ring on his left hand gleaming under the light, and glanced around the room. "Is this an unreasonable standard to hold someone to? Can you stop someone from falling in love? What do you think the Masters of my Order were trying to prevent?"

Upon entering, the students would find Summer positioned behind a projector at the back of the classroom and a picture displayed on the board in front. They'd also find leftover Halloween candy on their desks, and were welcome to take it or leave it. Summer had more than enough to go around.

She waited for for her students to get settled before she started the day's lecture.

"When John Ericsson conceived his 'impregnable battery', he had no idea that it would still be fighting battles a hundred years after his death. In the mid nineteenth century he struggled to have his concepts approved by distinguished industrialists mired in the past. But then came the War between the States, and with war always comes technological advancement and the adoption of previously unacceptable innovations," Summer began. "Word arrived in Washington that the South was building an ironclad ram that could destroy the Union fleet single-handedly. Unwittingly, the CSS Virginia (ex-USS Merrimack) provided the impetus to goad reluctant Northern politicians into funding the construction of an ironclad opponent. Thus the Monitor came into being."

Summer paused, switching to another picture before continuing with her lecture.

"Then came the battle that forever changed the way naval strategists viewed warship design and ship-to-ship engagement. The Monitor and the Virginia fought to a standstill, neither ship inflicting significant damage upon the other. Each was invulnerable to the other and to land-based batteries. Nevertheless, by the end of that year (1862) both ironclads were gone: the Virginia was blown up by her crew to prevent capture, the Monitor foundered in a gale off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina."

"She was highly unseaworthy in rough waters, hence her sinking during a gale. Sixteen of her sixty-two crewmen were lost. She was re-discovered in 1973 and her wreck site was designated as the first U.S. Marine sanctuary. There are a total of only thirteen to this day."

"Hi, everyone!" Ariel greeted the club with her usual cheer. "Big day today, because, guess what, that concert I've been talking about is apparently tomorrow and I'm really, really bad at keeping track of those things. So, let's just work on the Mickey number and, if anyone wants a solo, go for it because you won't be singing enough."

"Also, I thought it might be fun if any of us had any songs about their Halloween transformations, if they were good ones. And if they weren't," not looking at Rinoa, not looking at Rinoa... "maybe you'll feel better singing about it. Or you could just sing about whatever you want. There's never enough singing, after all."

Words even Ariel might be regretting sooner than she'd ever expect.

Dun dun dun!

There was nothing better than a lunch buffet, but fate seemed to be against Barney. He was missing Surf'n'Turf day at Sunshine's Palace to meet with his student council.

Forgive him his impatience.

"Okay, let's make this quick," Barney announced suddenly, smacking a gavel against the table because he hoped to shock one or two of those assembled. "Blah blah, people came home, we rocked it as expected, end of story! The real question you must ask yourself is 'Will the pretty girls of the student body remember that I existed based off Homecoming alone?' The answer, my friends, is simple. NO! You've gotta do something BIG to make that kind of memory! So, what's it gonna be?" And with that, Barney opened the floor to discussion.

The only reason Sherlock was in class today was because it was better than singing at John. Which essentially ranked it just below certain levels of hell. And grammar school.

He had a violin out of self defense and wasn’t afraid to use it should the urge to sing crop up.

“Class today is going to be on the importance of using a mobile phone,” Sherlock said, making sure each word was precise and devoid of musicality. “Access to the internet and the ability to contact someone at a moment’s notice is--”

God damn it all. His fingers were twitching for the violin bow. Gritting his teeth, Sherlock tucked the instrument under his chin and started to play.

Hello hello, baby you called I can't hear a thing... )
