doubleohblonde: (Bond is in the room)

Today, when Bond's students entered the Danger Shop, they'd find themselves emerging into a bustling metropolis.

"London," Bond began, once the class had finished arriving. "Apart from getting razed to the ground very early in its history, has stood for around two thousand years." He then went on to give a potted history of the area, touching on the more interesting parts.

"Currently, we're standing in the middle of the area actually called the City of London, but unless you have an overwhelming interest in finance, there are a great many more interesting areas for you to explore during the class. All of which are worth visiting, and thanks to the magic of the Danger Shop, you'll actually be able to get to them instead of being stuck in traffic for the hour."

The crate, labeled with a black "Fragile" stamp and a "This Way Up" with an arrow that was clearly upside down, had arrived that morning, just in time for class, and so now it sat on Farnsworth's desk at the head of the class, looming ominously.

Dark Matter )

"So, I want each and every one of you to take a moment to come up here and see what I mean about the weight of a thousand suns thing. You're to come up here and have a good look at this dark matter that was just excreted from this creature's bowels and try to pick it up. And then we're going to think about this for a minute. This dark matter came from the butt of a small, cross-eyed creature that smells faintly of wet dog. This irrefutably proves one thing about dark matter. What is it? We will have a discussion," the Professor gave a visceral shudder, "and, for next week, I'd like you to formulate a ten page research paper on this topic. You start us off. You look like you might have some real gems."

"Yo, Rookies!" Why, yes, Reno was in an excellent mood as he sauntered into the classroom today. Why do you ask? "Funny thing, ain't it? I always had a hell of a friggin' time stayin' awake during history lessons, and here I am about to give you one?"

Well, Reno thought it was amusing, anyhow. )

[Open and rambly, as is the way of Reno's classes.]

A stack of papers sat on Cindy's desk today; as soon as everyone was seated, she nodded at Jaime if he was there to begin passing them out. "This is your syllabus for this semester. Be warned, items may move on a whim--specifically mine--because I feel like teaching something different that day. Everything listed here will be covered and possibly more besides, but the when isn't set in stone, okay?"

"Today, however, we will be following it and discussing where symbols come from. When a mommy idea and a daddy idea love one another very much, they need a means of proving it to the world at a glance... )

Rinoa had finally finished with Roaring Hills -- tragic, but somehow she wanted to shake the main characters instead of sympathizing with them. Still a good book.

It left Rinoa in that odd space where you didn't want to start a new book just yet, because the old one was still simmering and needed some time to settle down in the back of your mind. So today she was going to busy herself in the stacks, making sure everything was in tip-top shape.

Students met at the Causeway today, and Ghanima waited until everyone had arrived before speaking. She was dressed in jeans and a plain blouse, and true to her word of last week, wore dark sunglasses to hide her eyes of the ibad.

"The Adler Planetarium — America's First Planetarium — was founded in 1930 by Chicago business leader Max Adler," she began. "The museum is home to three full-size theaters, extensive space science exhibitions, and one of the world's most important antique astronomical instrument collections on display."

"The planetarium is built on what once was an artificial island on Lake Michigan. Northerly Island, as it is called, was the first of what was to be a series of artificial islands stretching south. The permanent land link was constructed soon after the planetarium was built. Each of the twelve corners of the landmark 1930s building is decorated by a bronze plaque, which represents a sign of the zodiac, and the dedication plaque located in the Adler's Rainbow Lobby depicts the gods and goddesses for which the planets are named. Pluto is missing because it was not discovered until February 18, 1930, after the plaque was created. Ironic, almost, given that Pluto is not currently considered a planet anymore, so the plaque is once again correct."

"Through the portal, now. We have two hours to explore."

"You all found your way back," Aly said with a teasing smile as the bell rang for the class to begin. "I'd be impressed, but I've met Fandom students before."

"Before we start, I'd like to introduce my TAs for this term - Ino Yamanaka, Rinoa Heartilly, Percy Jackson, and Nico di Angelo. Four isn't usual, I know, but we're trying something new this time around. I'd like each of the TAs to head up a small group of their classmates. When we work in teams or have small discussions, that's the group you'll be with."

She went to flip over the whiteboard to show the groups she'd set up.
Much like flipping the whiteboard, we click the cut. )

Dan's hand was still a bit sore from the weekend, so he wasn't doing much in the terms of carrying around a lot of books. Instead he busied himself with looking at the records of the books that were checked out and seeing if any were overdue. Thrilling.
